They were much faster paced than LoTR movies and they remain on the track and on one story for most of the time. So, even if they stretched out some parts, I guess they did a great job doing it. I never read the book but what I do know is that books explain things in more detail and stretch things than movies but can't say anything for this one. You read the book so you know better. Also, I heard kick was full comedy movie?true? this doesn't look like a comedy movie to me. Looks like another lame attempt in remaking a south movie and grabbing people's cash.
