SchizoidFreud
Script writer Stuart Beattie spills beans on the film adaptation of Epic's shooter The Hollywood scriptwriter given the responsibility of penning the silver screen adaptation of Epic's Gears of War has said that movie will be an "enormous film." Speaking to GamePro.com, Stuart Beattie, whose writing credits include Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, explained that it's likely the Gears movie will be shot entirely on green screen like 300. "There's no way to build that world any other way, really," he said. "That's a huge world. It's a planet and it's a bubble and it's a building. It's an epic sci-fi war and an enormous film. To get it made at all, the only way to make it for a price is to be on a soundstage. But the game also has that look, which is really interesting, so I think it will dovetail really nicely." Beattie also said he's going to be "riding" Epic's "asses" about the film script and is working closely with the developer and Gears' daddy CliffyB. Epic has "lived with this game more than I have and they definitely know these characters, this world and all that kind of stuff. I think the things that they need to develop their games are the same things that I need to write my script. That's just a treasure trove waiting to be mined as far as I'm concerned." MarketTantrik
Any movie that compares itself to '300' goes into my watch list. That its based on Gears of War is just icing on the cake. Its commendable how M$ have managed to grab new Xbox exclusive IPs that have gained enormous traction in a relatively short span of time they have been around relative to Nintendo and Sony. Little doubt that money is very much part of M$'s DNA. That the money making machine also churns out some great game titles is sweet music to my gaming senses. reaper
Transformers 2 Scribes SetTrio of writers hired for fast-tracked action sequel. According to the Hollywood Reporter, genre writing duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who wrote the first film, will be linked up with The Ring scribe Ehren Kruger to pen the screenplay for Transformers 2. Kurtzman and Orci are currently busy penning J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie, and Kruger may have been brought on to lighten their load in order to ensure that the script is finished as fast as possible -- the studios want the film in production before the anticipated industry strike. And here's a little bonus for diehard Transformers fans... THR says that Kruger met with Bay and Hasbro president Brian Goldner and impressed them with his knowledge of the Transformers mythology. Transformers 2 is tentatively set for a June 26, 2009 release. source: ign.
Tyler
I have my doubts about the green screen thing. 300 needed it because the comic also had that kind of look. Whereas something like Gears (unlike Halo) can actually be done with sets and locations. I mean the first Terminator movie managed to create a believable post-apocalyptic world in 1984! Why can't they do it today? Green screen was used very well by movies like 300 and Sin City but it failed in movies like Sky Captain and Ultraviolet. Either way I am looking forward to the Gears movie, but I hope they do justice to the grittyness and gore of the game...

reaper
Brief God of War Movie Updates Brief God of War Movie Updates March 13, 2007 by Alex Billington Just in time for the highly anticipated video game God of War 2 to hit shelves today, game creator David Gaffe spoke briefly about the film adaptation in an Entertainment Weekly interview. Like a lot of big adaptation projects as of recent, it's moving along slowly but surely, with the latest being a nearly completed script. In the interview, Gaffe's answer was short and sweet, right to the point. There's a really good script written by David Self, who wrote Thirteen Days for Kevin Costner. I keep expecting them to call me and say it's dead, but my fingers are crossed. We'll be sending the script out to a huge-name director. He also was asked about what actor would be his idol choice to play Kratos, the main character in the game, and without hesitation Gaffe answered Djimon Hounsou. You can read the full interview with Gaffe on EW.com, with the last few questions being about the movie. Although I'm not a fan of the game myself, I do understand that just like Prince of Persia, it could be converted into a pretty incredible adaptation. Let's hope it actually gets made and doesn't die in pre-production hell! left-Kratos / Right-Djimon Hounsou source: http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/03/13/bri...-movie-updates/ they must be joking ... right??? here is another recent article - God of War Movie Script is FinishedDirectors to start receiving the latest draft soon. By Patrick Klepek, 03/09/2007 Discussions about adapting the God of War series to the silver screen were circling before God of War 2 was even announced, but we've heard jack diddly about the movie since. Entertainment Weekly recently chatted with ol' David Jaffe, however, and confirmed a script has been completed by scribe David Self (Road to Perdition, Thirteen Days). "I keep expecting them to call me and say it's dead, but my fingers are crossed," said Jaffe. The next step is to start feeling out potential directors, but as we saw with Halo, even when you have the people behind the lens ready to roll, that doesn't mean it'll happen. source: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157901 Edited October 7, 2007 by reaper
MightySkate
Djimon Hounsou??? while i have tremendous repect for that actor and his work lately has been amazing, i don't think he can represent Kratos (although physically he's well built ) Edited October 7, 2007 by MightySkate
