Saw "Watchmen" today.

In the US, so it was uncensored.

Zack Snyder does it again :( A very faithful translation, although many of the scenes are extremely "300esque".

Malin Akerman :(

It's a very faithful translation - agreed. But the movie has nowhere the impact of the book. My big cribs - the violence is over the top, there was no need. So is the nudity, the comic just does not have so many blue wangs floating around as the movie. The plot change is ok - it fits in well. But my biggest crib has to be about the master criminal (I am not going to even give a simple hint). Watch the movie and you will understand. Watchmen at its heart is a mystery and the book keeps the mystery alive till the last act - whether it be the big plot or the unmasking. In the movie it's evident from the first scene who the criminal is, and that destroys the whole story.

So its not the same one as in the book?

^^ same one but it's painfully obvious from the first scene

There is a shot of the attacker in the trailer and it made the villian pretty obvious. I'm sure even people who haven't read it would be able to tell.

BTW is the 27th confirmed as the Indian release date? I've yet to see any promos, posters or ads in papers...

@saha, stick to your AnnaSophia Robb movies... :(

that's what spoils the entire movie. for those who have read the book they know but it still kinda jars. in the comic there's just one panel where the shoe kinda gives it away if you come back the second time - but nothing even remotely obvious.

I see it more as a character study though. IMO, the mystery is just there to hold the stories together and give them purpose. Once you've already read the novel, the whodunnit portion of the movie is moot. However, if they've screwed up the backstories, bodylanguage and voice acting - I am personally going to don a costume and cause grievous bodily harm to this self proclaimed visionary.

One major gripe - what's with the casting??

Nite Owl is the creep from Hard Candy?

Laurie is Freakshow's wife Liane, from Harold and Kumar?

Zack, you couldn't have utilized the budget for better actors? A-hole.

Rorsharch seems straight out of the book. Night owl and Jon are ok. Ozymandias is made to look like a pansy - there's none of the gravity from the novel. He was definitely the weakest of the lot. Comedian is also good.

The back stories are briefly glimpsed but nothing detailed because there's no time. Let's say that 95% of the movie is a faithful creation from the panels of the book. But it's not necessarily 95% of the book.
