@Afty, LA,

Can't blame anyone who hates watchmen. The movie is made in such a way so as to appeal only to the book's fans. There's nothing new for a newbie to like in the movie.

You wanna hate the film at least hate it for the right reasons. Going into watchmen and expecting Spiderman or Ironman is retarded. No other way to put it.

The scene where they show a towering hundred foot Jon

flanked by helicopters and tanks vs tiny Vietnamese soldiers

is goose bump inducing. Scenes on Mars, Antarctica, the explosions, Archie, the fight sequences.. all very well done. Rorschach and Jon's soliloquies are awesome.

The script wasn't watered down, the production was great and yet they didn't sell out. That's the beauty of it.

EDIT: And probably the reason for the box office failure.

Watched No Country for Old Men last night... man what an overrated load o crap. Just went with ratings and watched it, dun understand whats in da movie for it to get hyped so much n win some oscars.

Apart from the slick direction the movie lacked substance... was waiting till the end for for some twist in the tale.... The only reason I stuck through it was because I kept hoping for some sort of payoff and eventually I was so far in I thought "I might as well just finish it"

Is it just me or anyone else feels the same abt this movie?

I dont really measure a movie in Oscar quality. And I do agree that Oscars are given to some absolute sh*t stinkers.

But Million dollar baby was not a sh*t stinker. Not by a long shot. It was a good solid 8/10 for me. Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood were both brilliant (as usual) and I genuinly cared about the characters. The ending left me depressed as well.

You can pick better films to support your theory of crap winning Oscar.

Not seen this movie but most movies that win oscars are over-hyped (million dollar baby)

whoa - million dollar baby was amazing. it's a simple story told brilliantly - just like Unforgiven.

Mystic River was crap.

I didn't find Milliondollar slumdog any good. Coming back.. The Prestige is truly brilliant. I have a 1080p copy of it. I think the movie deserves to be watched on original BR. Mystic River was alright, didn't find it too great.

I watched Full Metal Jacket a few days back, it has its moments but a rating of 8.3/10 on Imdb is a bit high for it tbh.

I agree. Its Stanley Kuberick's movie, what do you expect, ratings will be flying off the charts. This and 'clockwork orange' - two very overrated movies IMO.

NCFOM was an excellent movie. Why were you expecting any twist out of it ? Brilliant direction, flawless performances, and a tight screenplay. Some of the scenes are very gripping and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The villain is one of the most brutal and menacing to be depicted so far in hollywood cinema. Certainly deserves the oscar it got.

Only Tommy Lee Jones is wasted in the movie. But I guess, he is not too popular nowadays :/
