Yeah the problem is 99% indian people only like to watch garbage action or romantic comedies.

They don't like movies where they will have to think.

So this is why we don't get quality cinema.

People like garbage so they get fed garbage. Not really the fault of indian film industry.

99% people in the world, not just indian people. Also, what is garbage to you, isn't garbage for others. Correct word to use is masala or commercial movies.

It's a lot more complicated. Indian film industries (not only Bollywood) attracts new fans almost everyday. A lot of these new fans depend on commercial/masala movies because it offers some form of escapism. If there is anything to be learnt from the success of the Baahubali franchise and the recent uproar concerning nepotism in Bollywood than it is that the Indian film industry as a whole must realize that they have a responsibility to educate and uplift the masses. Bollywood must understand that cramming theatres with an enormous number of movies is a crude idea for a behavioral sink. This is an unhealthy attitude that fails in the long-run.

Kangana Ranaut recently spoke about nepotism in bollywood in koffee with karan. She's one of the few people in bollywood who isn't a kiss a*s.

Nepotism pura Indian culture mein hi hai... politics ki baat kar reha hu lekin just pointing out hope won't be accused of starting political debate......politics mein bhi dekh lo...Dynasty jaisa rule hua hai India for last 60 years family business bana diya........Nehru was appointing his sisters and other relatives to good positions as ambassador to USA and woh abhi tak chal reha hai....

All Big business families ko dekh lo.....

Bollywood mein bhi hai ...its sh*t load nepotism...Except for few stars like Irfan , Kangana, Nawaz ...very few of them only have made it big and that too on their own.....bakhi toh pura Industry is ...uska beta...uski beti....uska bhai...uska behan ka ladkha......

Karan Johan toh abhi se hi ...SRK ka beta ke liya movie ready kar reha hai...bolta hai main launch karunga....arey bc.......hadh hai....

The thing is, the masses of India are already struggling with a lot of problems.

They want to see Salman Khan beating 20 people, the want to see people dancing and they want happy endings.

People in India like masala films because they want to forget their problems.

I've heard this excuse before but that doesn't mean there's no room for people who do want to enjoy a meaningful, thoughtful film. Both types of movies can coexist like in Hollywood but so far that has yet to happen.

there are though provoking films made in india like udta punjab, haider and many other in southern languages (shuddhi, urvi etc - both kannada which released recently).... just that their audience is limited and they don't see so much of news as the blockbusters involving popular stars.

There are decent films released in bollywood. I am sure you wouldn't have seen or even know about 90% of them. Those films come from small banners and lesser known stars. It is not going to help if you are only going to focus on films of big stars.

Was reading the last few pages of Bahubali argument. It was a great way to pass time.

Anyway, just wanted to say, if you want to compare Bahubali to Hollywood films, instead of comparing Bahubali to MCU/DCU/Matrix etc. as you guys are doing, it would be better to compare it to Scorpion King or Conan the Barbarian. All of those have MCs who are stronger and better than others because they are MCs and entire story focuses around them.
