Saw POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales - 6/10 - It is better than 'On Stranger Tides', but still wasn't able to provide entertainment of Curse of Black Pearl. Only the new actress gave a stellar performance, all the others were in there for the heck of it. Even Jack Sparrow lacked charm and emotions that Johnny Depp portrayed in the initial trilogy. Story was over convoluted and Barbossa subplot was completely unnecessary. Salazar and army were also weak, didn't have that zeal of the skeleton's army in Curse of Black Pearl. I liked the cameos, even the post credit one. :scarerun: But I think they should not make another 'Pirates', leave the series on high or at least on an average note.

wtf

Civil war and BvS lie on the opposite extreme ends of the movie scale. 99% of the superhero movies would lie between those 2

Nah man they aren't that apart. BvS is slightly better.

I read that there are some dark and violent scenes. Check this out (No spoilers): https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/wonder-woman

Just a heads up.

Thanks mate :good:

We've been pretty open with her about some things being strictly for adults etc so she knows what's not to watch and she turns away without being told. Anyway she's sat thru some of my dying light sessions and I've tried to answer all the questions she's thrown at me.

Saw Wonder Woman. Pretty good movie. It's not something I will rewatch again immediately though. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is perfect. Never thought she could pull off a solo movie. She looks the part and acts the part. Her action scenes are perfect. In fact all the action scenes are shot beautifully. That scene on Amazon island (can't spell themscyra whatever lol) was amazing. Her chemistry with Chris Pine is quite good and her innocent charm is quite adoring too. Overall her performance was perfect. And villain was a nice surprise. I thought they will f**k it up like Iron Man 3 but they didn't. Final battle was shot really well and ending was satisfactory. The amazing theme was used very well, they could have easily overdone it but they didn't. I actually think this is the best superhero origin movie ever. Better than Spiderman 1 or Batman begins or Man of Steel or Iron Man 1.

Also good to see there wasn't any effort to setup the future movies and thereby confuse casual audience.

Stole my lines :P

Anyway Gal Gadot owned the role and I cannot imagine anyone else as Wonder Woman. Overall very entertaining and accessable to everyone. Sad part was the damn theater was 3/4ths empty. But then TBH even Marvels stuff ends up half empty as well. Guess people here are more interested in getting sloshed then anything else especially on a Saturday evening.

Now that I think again, with such an awesome and charming Wonder Woman, I hope they don't do Injustice storyline which was hinted in BvS. Instead they should stick to Flashpoint but that again has a villainous WW. I don't want an evil WW on screen now :(

That No man's land scene though. That was awesome too. I was wrong, I want to watch the movie again lol.

The No Man's Land scene was brilliant. It could have easily been tonally off but it was done very well. If this was Snyder he would have done just that (there's a similar sequence in Sucker Punch). Juxtaposing the horrors of trench warfare with a scantily clad heroine acting all badass isn't easy but it was tastefully handled by Patty Jenkins.

Now that I think of it, I do want to watch the movie again, despite me saying earlier that I do feel like re-watching it.

Glad people are liking the movie here. Some may think that "feminist" journalists are going easy on it but here's the thing. There's nothing feminist about the movie itself, yes the hero is female but the script isn't trying to push a feminist agenda. The men are also competent and good people. Steve Trevor is a hero without having any super-powers. There's also an evil female villain so it's not like the bad guys are all men. Then there's Themiscyra which has always been the home of Amazons in Greek mythology.

There is a feminist agenda in Wonder Woman. It's just well hidden behind Gal Gadot and not Wonder Woman herself.

Jenkins didn't have to kill off Steve Trevor in order to prove a point. Trevor didn't have to commit suicide in order to prove that he was an exception among our gender.

But you will not understand this. Not until the women in your life throw you to the wolves. There are a lot of good men in this world who genuinely care about empowering women.

You don't have to kill them off just to prove that they exist.

Is that a spoiler about steve trevor or are you just giving an example?

Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

I never realised why Feminists were so apathetic towards MHRAs until i watched that scene. I always thought they would support the MHRA underdogs because feminists are a minority themselves.

I found the scene puzzling where Ares paused his attack on Diana for a whole minute just so that Trevor could tell her how much he cared about her before he decided to throw away his life.

I'm not sure if Jenkins herself came up with this idea or if she was under pressure from feminists. There are lots of good men in the world. Single dads don't get the credit that they deserve. Should we men kill ourselves just to prove that we sincerely believe in empowering women?

Saw Wonder Woman today, it was nothing exceptional though, its generic superhero origin story. Some of the action sequences were awesome, villain was Meh, story was as usual Good vs Evil. Certainly the best of DCEU yet. I would give it 8/10 and I certainly enjoyed it. Overall a well balanced movie and, guys stop over analyzing and find hidden meanings. I am just happy that we finally get to enjoy the Marvel and DC roster on big screen. Childhood dreams do come true. Eagerly waiting for JLA and Avengers:IW.

I was excited about Wonder Woman even though hype started wearing off on me since last month. My expectations fit in with the vision that Jenkins and Snyder had for Wonder Woman. That's probably the reason why i was able to spot a hidden message.

Jenkins very clearly sent a feminist message in the scene towards the end where Diana is standing in the middle, bathed in light, surrounded by men embracing each other. This scene is right after she kills Ares. While the death of Ares signals the end of aggression/misogyny, Trevor's death signals the end of rationality/monogamy. And Wonder Woman, representing women, emerges after to lead all of mankind into a new era. After all, if it weren't for Trevor, Diana would've killed Ludendorff thus saving the villagers. In short, Trevor, the genuine good guy, was holding back Diana (women) from doing good (achieving their full potential).

This is a very strong feminist message that Wonder Woman (2017) is sending out.
