Movie Discussion Thread

According to sources speaking with film site IESB, talent agency CAA and "studio executives," Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg is in talks to oversee the production of a new Halo movie.

IESB say Spielberg has been "blown away" by Stuart Beattie's screenplay, which as we know deals with a kid called John. Oh, and some aliens as well, along with a little shooting.

IESB also point out that having lost Transformers, Dreamworks (having recently split from their distribution deal with Paramount) will be looking to gain a replacement "tentpole" action series, and Halo - which has been abandoned by Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp - fits the bill perfectly.

Apparently CAA, who list Spielberg as a client, have the director in "active negotiations" to produce the movie. So please, make note of this. He's rumoured to be in talks to produce the movie, not direct it.

Sounds crazy, but then, five years ago how many of you would have picked that Spielberg would produce a Transformers movie?

We have contacted Microsoft and will update if the company comments.

Microsoft are AAA morons for scuttling the Jackson/Blomkamp version. Now we'll get a big budget TF2-alike instead of something like District 9/Starship Troopers or Blomkamps Halo short. What a missed opportunity..

ahem...ppl, i asked something.... :)

Watchmen is an adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel of the same name. It's widely regarded as one the best works of fiction. The story is not your average super-hero team story like X-Men, Avengers or the Justice League. It's a socio-political commentary on how the world would have been if super heroes and masked vigilantes actually existed in the real world. Of course it's also a murder mystery and has some action thrown in.

Watch the movie again, not as a superhero action movie but as a murder mystery/political thriller.

went to a GI Joe screening last night.

I'm suing for a full refund + psychiatric expenses + damages for the two hours of my life that I'll never get back.

ROFLMAO. So the reviews are true. And you got into an advance as well? What a coincidence.

When is it releasing in India .. :)

I'm pretty sure they didn't tell Keyofx that at the screening :P

Besides I have serious doubts about it releasing here anyway. Many recent cult sci-fi movies never saw a theatrical release here (Children Of Men, Sunshine... etc)

^^ so its the procuring route then .. :'(

Wait for a good version for the love of God. The detail on the props/expressions is what sells the illusion so well.

On the movie. I can count a half dozen instances of plot flaws/inconsistencies/amateur acting off the top of my head, but damnit you just won't care, it's just that good. I just wish they were a bit more prudent in how they used their monies, because there were a lot more fx shots they could have thrown in to convey a sense of scale. Jo'burg (the city) isn't used very much, for one.

Peter Jackson - low budget. Does not compute. I saw the trailer, but is it really that low budget?

I think this one was made on a very tight budget. After the Halo fiasco, Jackson put in his own money to get this movie done with the director

Low budget perhaps, or atleast when compared to major Hollywood films :D

But seriously, they needed some in city shots. And don't forget PJ owns WETA Digital as well. A couple extra shots wouldn't have killed him.

Nope, his diet should take care of the killing on it's own :D

Edit: Expect violence. LOTS N LOTS OF GLORIOUS IN YOUR FACE VIOLENCE :(

I'd rather wait for the blu-ray if it doesn't get a theatrical release here.

If I'm not tempted to download a decent copy before that...

@MT - even if I go thinking it will be just action sequences end to end will GIJoe be bad?

If you are happy with action simply for the sake of action, with little or no logic / reasoning / justification, then you will still not be satisfied thanks to the sub par quality of the sequences.

...and many of the geekier reviews claim it's better than Transformers... especially the action scenes.

Anyway, there's no way I'm not not watching it. I just hope the multiplexes here are open on the 21st.
