+1 Due to that had an headache after watching the movie.

really.. i din notice it too much..

The Bourne trilogy employed a lot of shaky cam. Especially the last one.

ya..and they nailed it.

speaking of shaky cams, even QoS sucked because of that.

that movie was more like james bourne.. :samui:

Maybe that's movie they should make now. Megan Fox running in slow mo for two hours while some one continuously throws water on her white tee.

id watch that. back to back. yea.

Watched G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra last night.

I know I'm in the minority here but I LOVED it!

It's a live action cartoon (much like last year's Speed Racer). Yes the plot is lame, the acting is bad and most of the dialog is cringeworthy. But you aren't here to watch There Will Be Blood, you're here to watch a movie based on a f**king toyline/cartoon/comic book. The cartoon had some of the most ridiculous plots and set pieces and the movie is a very faithful adaptation of that. It does not try hard to be smart or plausible. It knows it's stupid and over the top. And that's what made it fun. I'm gonna watch it again. It's definitely more watchable than Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. At least it doesn't have senseless humor and a long running time with scenes that just drag for no reason.

The action scenes are very well done, the Paris chase is one of the best action sequences I've seen in a movie this year. In fact the entire movie is a string of action scenes joined by 5-10 mins of non-action scenes. And that's pretty much what I expected from a G.I. Joe flick. Sienna Miller cannot act, but damn she was stunning as a brunette!

Most moviegoers have become f**king critics these days. If it was like this in the eighties and early nineties many action classics would have never achieved greatness. Why is it hard for people to just enjoy a movie for what it is? Why does everyone have to over-analyze everything? Did Arnold or Stallone know how to act? No. Then why the hell are most of their older movies highly regarded? I have nothing against smart movies. But not every movie has to be one.

While I enjoyed most of the movie the G.I. Joe fanboy in me still couldn't help but nitpick...

- The romance subplots were totally messed up. Ripcord and Scarlett is just wrong. And don't even get me started on the Duke/Baroness emo part.

- Cobra Commander... WTF? I want the cloth mask and the shrill voice dammit!

- Storm Shadow wasn't as noble as he is was in the comics. He was a pure villian here, which he isn't.

I did however like the few nods to the cartoon and comic series like The Pitt intro which was very much like the comic book and Breaker and the bubblegum.

Overall, this is by far the most entertaining flick of this rather disappointing summer (along with Star Trek). I loved TF2 but it could have been much better if Bay decided to remove all the unnecessary stuff. Compartively G.I. Joe moves at a much better pace, the action scenes are not shaky and incomprehensible and most importantly it knows it's a dumb action movie.

I'm a huge fan of mindless action flicks (I've seen bad Boys 2 over 50 times) but I just didn't feel it with Rise of Cobra. I can look past the bad acting (Channing Tattum should be shot in the mouth), the terrible plot, the insanely horrible cliches (which kinda backfired since the token black dude wasn't funny at all) and all that but at the end of the day, the movie just felt boring. The Paris chase sequence was cool no doubt but the movie left me feeling pretty meh.

I guess it's the small things that add up in the end.

PS: Could Heavy Duty say "Yo Joe" with any less enthusiasm?

Well, not everyone has the same parameters for enjoying movies. While some do enjoy mindless action, others prefer movies with good story, performances etc. Its more to do with different tastes rather than being a critic or not.

I don't think that way. I enjoy many different genres. But I have different expectations for each. For example I wouldn't go into a movie like District 9 with the same mindset as G.I. Joe.

If what you say is true then why watch a movie that apparently doesn't fit your taste and then complain about how bad it was? You can't really put movies like G.I. Joe and Transformers in the same category as Oscar contenders, can you?

what? are you serious?

Yes. That's the only part of the movie that irritated me.

I agree with that.

Watched Inglourious Basterds. HOLY CRAP!

BEST big movie of the year, right next to District 9! Anyone worried that Tarantino had lost it after watching DeathProof *needs* to see this a-s-a-p. Fair warning to mainstream types though since over half the film is in languages other than English. It's also nearly three hours long, with an prologue that takes all the time in the world to set the Jew-Hunter up. You'll watch every small action the characters on screen make waiting for something to happen.

You'll also get more than your monies worth of scalping, murder and mutilation including a baseball bat beating that would make that fascist officer from Pan's Labyrinth proud :eyebrow:

While I enjoy action movies as much as the next guy, I prefer to have some logic attached to events taking place on screen. Its got nothing to do with the mentality of modern movie goers v/s those back in the 80s or 90s. When Superman was created, literally superhuman amounts of thought and effort went into explaining all of his powers and why he could do the things that he could. There is only so much that a normal, rational human brain can suspend its disbelief before it starts to reject the inputs it is being fed,

The problem with GI Joe is that, it oversteps the disbelief barrier on several fronts - the action pieces, the delta suits, the love interests, the underwater base, the 3D holograms, etc. I am a huge fan of the animated series and have even collected and read every one of the GI Joe "Choose your Adventure" series of books, but this movie destroyed all of my expectations and fond memories in the most terrible way possible. I do not say this as a movie critic, I say this as an ardent GI Joe fan and a movie buff. The GI Joe movie simply sucked hyena balls.
