Not financed by a big movie studio, or made on a very low budget. Good indies often get backings from big studio if they get some serious attention in film festivals. But that doesn't mean they are not indie anymore. See this list, you would be surprised so many movies you thought to be produced by big studios actually started as indies. But that doesn't mean they are not indie anymore. See this list, you would be surprised so many movies you thought to be produced by big studios actually started as indies.
