Came back from watching Sherlock Holmes - it's a decent enjoyable time pass flick. It's certainly not the good ole stiff upper lip Holmes from the Beeb, neither is it Snatch or Lock Stock. It's an adventure movie with some great one liners, fantastic performances by Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr and a good plot. Whatever may have been written about Holmes not being portrayed as true to the book, he is. There is nothing wrong with his portrayal - he is the mad genius who can see exactly what's in front of his eyes. And the madness comes through in Downey's eyes. The guy frigging looks intelligent.

Watson on the other hand is portrayed as able and intelligent - a far cry from the books and the serials. He is the more violent of the two and takes on enemies with panache. He and Holmes are partners and not master and idiot. Jude Law is amazing - always maintained he's a great actor and totally underutilized. In this movie there's none of his trademarks.

Mark Strong - uhm uhm he's not exactly the intelligent type although his character is supposed to be. Moriarty never shows his face in the entire movie but is much more menacing from the background. Mark Strong comes across as the strong, silent, dumb category.

Rest of the cast can go take a dive.

The plot / story is good, really really good. But the execution leaves you wanting more in the end. The final showdown is a bit disappointing, but then you suddenly realize that there is a Guy Ritchie twist which is very very subtle and easy to miss for any who haven't seen a Guy Ritchie movie before.

And please do yourself a favour - watch this in the theater, any camera print will be very dark and you will miss out on a lot of the action. Same goes for the dialogues - this is super fast clipped Brit accents. Have fun following it most of the time even in the theater - I saw parts of the audience dribbling and waiting for the next action sequence. Which there are many of, and splendid stuff.

Over all - go watch it. It's a mixed bag, but enjoyable.

I jus finished watching SAW VI ..... :sign_omg:

A note to all saw / jigsaw fans..... this is the plot twist of all saw movies n the most brutal ones.....

its got d best dialogues n amazing phrases.....

ultimately , this is the perfect SAW movie.....

for the 1st tym in my life , i felt a involuntary twitch in my hand wen i saw the last 2 mins........ the 1st 3 mins n the last 3 mins are the most powerful parts of the movie...... samourais.gif

plot twist is unblivble......

:threatenlumber:

As much i love the Saw franchise ( and boy i get off Saw  ) Saw VI was a downer.. the most disappointing of the lot.

saw 6 was a disappointment for me. Yes, traps were good this time but I still think its disappointing. After 5th it is the second worst saw movie though a good movie overall.

1st one is still the best for me.

1>3>2>4>6>5 for me in which 1 to 3 were awesome.

Now thats well said. Saw VI was wayy too contrived and seemed like it was conceived just because there has be a SAW movie every halloween. Hope Saw VII and the finale SAW VIII will sign off well.

And yeah Saw 1 had the most unbelievable twist IMHO. I literally jumped out of my bed and stood looking at the TV at 130am watching it 3 years ago.... :wOOtjumpy: Saw 3 comes 2nd.

The thing that disappointed me most was the scene where jill's miscarriage happens ( the door scene ). No spoiler cos thats already shown in SAW IV. But the other angle given to it seemed unneccessary and too contrived. As if the writers couldn't think of something new.

Sherlock Holmes - decent watch but surely not Guy Ritchie's best work (although you can see some his signature quite-cutting shots and directing style here). He should stick to crime capers but judging from the ending it looks like Holmes is gonna be a new franchise.

Watched an excellent movie, Whatever Works. Woody Allen nailed it as he always does, with excellent screenplay and usual pinch of adultery.

This guy churns out one movie every year, every single year and stays original. This one is charming as hell. I have seen almost every movie he has directed and a very few could be considered disappointing...

Little odd I find here is that people watch these cheap sci-fi/horror b-grade flicks but there is very little love for good cinema. Explains the state of Bollywood in one way :|

Watched Sherlock Holmes, finally.

Guy Ritchie's approach to the iconic character is pretty interesting. He definitely had a franchise in mind while making this one. The way each of the specific actions of Holmes are depicted with accurate details, the way he treated the character as a mad, genius scientist having superior knowledge than anyone around him and of course unintentionally appearing condescending to everyone around (except Watson).

There is a lot of emphasis on the two characters and their methods and not the actual details of the methods of the villain, which was interesting.

Also, Brit humor, excellent slow-mo sequences, brilliant and curious camera work and amazing background score worked wonderfully.

Would love to see a sequel getting made.

I saw 3 idiots. Well worth the exorbitant prices they are charging in some multiplexes here in Blore these days :ack:

It has quite lot of stuff picked from FPS, although the story is narrated in a much better and crowd pleasing way. And Aamir khan is a genius, from Ghajini to this, only he can pull this off :good:
