Hated Team America too. Just couldn't get past the first 15 minutes.

Btw:

Leonardo Di Caprio-starrer Inception beat Hindi releases Lamha, Tere Bin Laden and Udaan to emerge the top box office grosser this weekend, reflecting the increasing popularity of Hollywood movies in the country, largely helped by local language releases.

Other Hollywood movies that did well this summer include ‘Clash of Titans’ and ‘Knight and Day’, which outshone ‘Milenge Milenge’ in the opening weekend.

“The response to Hollywood movies suggest there is growing audience for this segment which have better access thanks to the growth in multiplexes across the country,” says Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios India, which is set to re-release its biggest blockbuster Avatar in 3-D in August.

Inception, which was released in the country in four languages with 300 prints, earned Rs 7.5 crore as gross box office collections in the opening weekend, beating all three Bollywood releases, Warner Brothers India, the distributor of the movie, said in a statement. The Christopher Nolan film topped the chart in the US as well.

Though Hollywood movies’ total contribution to the Indian box office still remains marginal, it is growing. Reports suggest that in the last nine months or so, it has grown to 8-10% from 5-7%, says Mr Singh.

Clash of Titans, Prince of Persia—Sands of Time and Knight and Day are all big hits of this summer.

Knight and Day, which was released with 273 prints on July 9, earned Rs 11 crore in the first week, while Clash of Titans, released with about 698 prints on April 2, has so far earned about Rs 27 crore.

Robert Downey Jr-starrer Iron Man 2, released on April 30, and Jaden Smithstarrer The Karata Kid, released on June 11, have so far earned about Rs 17 crore and Rs 14.5 crore, respectively, as gross box office collections in India.

One of the key strategies to woo the Indian audience has been localisation of content by not only dubbing the movie in regional languages like Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, but also getting popular Indian actors to lend their voices.

“Disney’s strategy is essentially to tell stories that appeal to the entire family and dubbing our movies in regional languages has helped reach out to a larger audience in India,” says Sesha Kanthamraju directormarketing & distribution Disney India.

For instance the studio latest success Prince of Persia—Sands of Time had roped in Kabir Bedi for dubbing in Hindi.

The dubbed versions sometimes account for as much as 50% of the total box office collections, according to Sarabjit Singh, general manager of Paramount Films of India.

While action movies get 45-50% collections from regional language versions, science fiction films get 25-30%, he says.

Fox Star Studio has even started displaying subtitles for its English movies as Indian audience might have difficulty understanding accents sometimes.

Hollywood studios are also releasing their flicks with larger number of prints, which means more shows and better access. In fact, Fox Star Studio plans to launch the next in the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, with 1,000 prints in India, while SPE Films India will release Salt coming Friday with about 450 prints.

Another factor that helped Hollywood films is the influx of multiplexes in the country, providing them with screens to play along with Indian movies.

Pramod Arora, group president of PVR, says that 15-20% collections of multiplexes come from Hollywood movies in metros though on an all India average it is just about 3-4%.

Didn't like the trailer for Due Date. Looks very much like they're capitalizing on the success of The Hangover. It even appears as if that fat guy is bringing his Hangover character into this one. And RDJ looks far from his best >_>

I hope I'm wrong though.

Watched Inception. Missed first 10 mins, parking in multiplexes can be royal pain, and then was clueless for at least next 15 mins about the whole fuss.

The ending...well I didn't like it, it was pretty much predictable. They did overdo few things towards the end

When Page says

"Ab kiske dimag mein ghus rahe ho?"

half of the theater burst into laughter.

and if I watch it again I am sure there would be few more plotholes I can spot.

Anyway, it's a brilliant movie but with a few flaws, enters my Top25 all time.
