shekdown
Posted this in the other thread. Top 5 and top 10 lists are one of the most toughest things to do. I know Im definitely missing some brilliant stuff, Im going to try different genres, and here is my top 5, not in any particular order : The Dark Knight Only a handful of movies can keep you at the edge of the seat for the whole length of the movie, it becomes doubly difficult when the movie is almost 3 hrs long. Dark Knight does it superbly. There were almost 3 full scenes when I thought "Its over, lets go to pee", but no, it kept me watching and bloody thrilled also. And I also learn a valuable lesson of how to hold a pee for an incredibly long time, and not to wait to applaud for the best actor in the credits and get stuck in a crowd to pee, but instead, run to the toilet the lights come on. The Shawshank Redemption What drama, what emotion, what casting, what acting, what a brilliant brilliant brilliant ending. This a movie that has an increedibly lasting impact and its drama at its best. The way the audience gets their emotions driven and heart wrenched, its simply unbelievable. Brilliant stuff. Its definitely Morgan Freemans best, and thats saying a lot as hes a top actor who has acted in some of the best movies made. Hot Fuzz Rarely do you come across a movie with such a brilliant fusion of humour, mystery and a crime thrilling entertainer. Hot Fuzz does just that. British comedy at its best. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost rip apart this movie with clever comments and subtle jokes that often go missed. Infact, I still notice 1 or 2 jokes I missed before, everytime I rewatch it. Its got a superb-chilling storyline that really adds to a very very solid mystery-crime thriller category. Got a good bit of action also Coach Carter Im not an avid watcher of sports movies, but sometimes, when Im in the mood, I just settle down and go the distance. More often than not, I cant, I end up splitting the movie into 2 or 3 viewings as it doesnt appeal to me as much as other movies. Coach Carter was one of the first movies that did this to me. Samuel L Jackson delivers a very powerful performance that drives to the audience the importance of good mentor who understands difficulty, sorrow and victory. Its not something only for Basketball fans, infact, there is very little basketball. The casting couldnt have been more precise. The entire team was great. All of them pulled off their roles solidly to deliver a movie, that I consider, the best sports related movie. The Departed I love Scorcese movies. Probably the best director - PERIOD. But among all his movies, Goodfellas included, I probably loved The Departed the most. Matt Damon, DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg, Sheen Sr.. No bloody way the movie can fail. And it doesnt, it delivers probably the most engrossing crime-thriller experiences Ive ever experienced. The story-line may not be original, ill reserve comparison with Infernal Affairs for later, but its just absolutely superb and executed perfectly. Its got superb supporting roles from all the people involved in the movie. Its one of those few movies where no character goes to waste. Everyone has a role and a bloody important one as well. This is probably one movie I could watch over and over and over again. Foreign Languages - Oldboy Difficult to choose between Oldboy and Cita De Deus, but I prefer Oldboy. One reason why I picked it? Its mind-friggin-blowing. I swear if I had eaten or something I would have thrown up. I cant say more without revealing anything, but what a bloody brilliant movie. shekdown
Hot fuzz? really? Hot Fuzz Inception ? Godfather ?? Inception was brilliant and all, but there is one thing that strikes me about most fantasy movies that you dont have in other movies. The ability or advantage to introduce something new when you hit a writers block. For example, if Im stuck at one point in my movie plot, I dont know how to proceed, if it was a non-fantasy fiction movie, I cant introduce any concept that is not real, however, if its fiction - I can just paint an invisible wall and make the protagonist walk through. If you get my float? It doesnt change my opinion of fiction movies, but merely changes their priority in top 5 list. You could still have some of them in the top list, but Inception isnt one of them. Godfather is great, but something about it doesnt appeal as highly as the movies Ive mentioned, in my opinion. In terms of Drama, I definitely rank Shawshank ahead of Godfather. As for Hot Fuzz selection, its again down to a personal choice. I rate it extremely high. Its not a mere comedy, but its something that has so much more. Such a brilliant plot, a superb storyline, great storytelling and direction, solid action and fully entertaining. Like I said before, the best part of Hot Fuzz is the fact that there are so many many clever dialogue or jokes. You just tend to miss them. Ive watched the movie about 6 times, and almost everytime, I find a new joke Ive missed out. And its one of those movies which you can keep watching over and over, and wont get bored. Lot of comedy movies die in terms of humour after the first watch. It might be hilariously funny the first time, but not even half as funny the 2nd time, Hot Fuzz beats that monotony to pulp. He went "what is this nonsense, this guy making that guy's dream, dream within 2 dreams... crap you kids see these days" actually ...i saw the movie too...and i absolutely loved it...but i too could not understand it properly...gets too complicated....one dream ...and one more dream inside...then one more dream inside.... but i got the basic concept of the movie....it about taking out or putting info in some one's brain . which is phenomenal idea...got to give that to christopher nolan.. shekdown
If u want dialogues n humour in tht witty combo - pulp fiction is unbeatable Pulp actually failed to impress me as much as it has impressed some people across the world. I love the wry stuff in Tarantino movies, which seem to pass by most people, but I still think as an out and out proper humour fest, nothing entertains me as much Hot Fuzz. Infact, I just watched My Cousin Vinny sometime back and I didnt think it anywhere near as funny as people make it out to be, but good movie nonetheless. I loved the way its shot and the acting. I wud disagree shekdown don't u think taxi driver is d most ultimate , deep n symbolic Scorsese movie of all time I think Taxi Driver is definitely up there, but if we have to go as a movie making an impact, Id rank Raging Bull higher than Taxi Driver, simply for the sheer performance from De Niro. I thought De Niro put a really strong performance in Cape Fear also, but the movie really thrives due to a superb finish and flourish, but an average build up. The screen play was very normal and nothing special.

Watched company way back and didn't like it much, was blown away by todays viewing. Its hard to believe the same guy ended up making sh*t like aag, shiva & countless other turds. And D is not even in the same league as his other gangster flicks like satya and ab tak 56, even sarkar is better.

Bulovski
Just watched Cars - man, Disney is awesome. It's a shame animated movies are thought of as kiddy movies but these are simply superb - Cars, Toy Story, Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Up, and my favourite of the new crop, Wall-E.
