dabba
@dabba RESPECT for putting POTC 1 in your top 5 list. I thought I am the only one who loved POTC 1 that much. 2nd and 3rd were disappointment but enjoyable nonetheless. true that... 1 was awesome

Aftrunner
Decent film. Not great but not poor either. Grab the HD version or pass.
KnackChap
2001 is pretty good except for the final chapter which is just :S
Bulovski
Here's the flip side - I thought the ending of 2001 the book was brilliant, and the beginning was boring as hell. The finale just didn't translate well into the movie scene.
Aftrunner
I thought the book ending was pretty poor too. /Burning bridges.

Aftrunner
It felt like a cop out. If you build up to something then you should finish it. Leaving something open to interpretation is just a cheap way of saying "The idea I originally had wasnt very good so make your own story." There are exceptions to that rule but its true most of the times. Edited December 14, 2010 by Aftrunner
Bulovski
I thought the interpretation was pretty clear - evolve into a higher form.
sup bro?
I love Kubrick, he's an excellent auteur of tremendous magnitude, judging by the fact that he never lets any actors make decisions ...... but 2001 is his most overrated movie. It is, in my opinion, needlessly complex just for the sake of being so. It starts off as a snore fest ... and ends similarly. The only bit of it worth watching is probably the parts with HAL and Dave. Yeah, it's technically (read CGI) sound, looks great, that said it really hasn't aged well. It's strictly not a surreal film because I would hate it even more if that is the case. Edited December 14, 2010 by Pretentious
praveer
I'm sorry but you people simply fail when it comes to recognizing art. In any case you do realize that there was a sequel and a great one at that ? (Infact the book spans even further than that). It wasn't as poetic but still great, and what's more it gives explanation to all those guys who want explanation for every damn thing. It felt like a cop out. If you build up to something then you should finish it. Leaving something open to interpretation is just a cheap way of saying "The idea I originally had wasnt very good so make your own story." There are exceptions to that rule but its true most of the times. It was clear though, Humans are basically at the peak of their biological evolution. praveer
Yea because that was totally unnatural for an ape. /sarcasm You missed the point where the writer/directer tried to show how far man has come since it was given the intelligence boost by the monolith, so that he could use a simple tool.
