montylee
I hope this is the right section... So, with the Move controller finally out it's impossible to control myself any longer, so i have to get a PS3 finally. Now, the million dollar question: Whether to buy it from US or INDIA? I guess the price difference between US and India is around $100. I'll be back in India in 2-3 months so if i buy it from US can i get the warranty in India? Some queries: 1) Can i use the warranty in India or will the PS3 bought from US be warranty-less in India? 2) Inspite of the horror stories with replacing/fixing PS3 under warranty (e.g. i saw some threads going on about how it is taking more than a month for people to get their PS3 back from the service center) it seems warranty is a must. Also it seems PS3 has a pretty good failure rate (may not be the case with PS3 Slim). 3) Has anyone observed issues with the PS3 slim? I have heard of YLOD with fat PS3 but not sure about the slim version. 4) I'll probably hook up the PS3 with my 22inch Dell LCD monitor. It's SP2208 model i guess and has a HDMI input. I guess, i'll need to buy an HDMI cable as stupid Sony doesn't give an HD cable. Any links for some cheap and working cables? 5) PS3 games are region free. Are the new movies available in blue format in India? Which blue-ray discs will work on the US bought PS3 and India bought PS3? Thanks in advance! Thanks in advance! 1) If I recall correctly, you cannot get warranty in India for PS3 bought in US. Sam posted an interview some time back. I think this was mentioned in it. 2) In my opinion, warranty is a must. Another point is Croma lets you purchase 2years extended warranty for Rs750. However, it will take a lot of patience and good number of calls/visits/scenes at Croma to get your replacement console from them. Hope this improves in coming months. 3) None that I know of. 4) HDMI cables are easily available on Ebay and computer markets. Costs around Rs400 or so. Sony gives one for around Rs1500 I guess. 5) Nah, movies in blu-ray format are not easily available in India AFAIK. You can find some titles at Flipkart.com. dabba
since most questions have already been answered.... 5. the blu ray selection has gone up leaps n bounds... n quite a few titles are available.... that being said... the latest movies take some time to release... also the prices are double (in some cases) as compared to the prices in the US.... plus with the sale prices in the US... buy 1 get 1, buy 2 get 1 offers.... for that reason alone i wud suggest a ps3 from the US.... since US blu-rays can be region locked to region A most blu-rays in India are region free and would work on a region A player
aRch-0n
Sony does provide an HD cable but its available seperately, The Slim ps3 doesnt have issues, ( least mine has'nt) Get a Region A ps3 mate,Since most of the bluray's available on even IVG's TP are region A, plus Region free bluray's are available over here as well, Plus what Ameet said is correct and dabba well to him but yeh

Noctis
At $299 (13.5k) its better to buy it from the US. I haven't seen any failures with the slim so far and the replacement here is a joke anyway. It will be like paying around 6.5k for their shitty warranty. ninja assaxin
PS3 have a built-in power right? so do we need a converter to use US console in India?
Hot-Drake-Pixel
Yes, built in power unit is a beauty. You would just need a standard pc power cable. For blu-rays region a is the best.

AtheK
get it form US, the indian region is C, can be a bummer with blu ray movies if you are planing to import, plus with the 6.5k you save, you can get 3 games
montylee
wow thanks for the replies guys ya i am thinking that buying from US is a better option. I am thinking of getting the PS3 Move bundle for $400. I'll also buy an additional Move controller so total cost would be $450. Don't know how much the bundle in India will be as it hasn't released yet. But i think the price difference would still be around $100. @JC, thanks for your bonus answers I was reading about the Indian PSN store too. I hope it releases officially soon. And i love most of the games you mentioned. I already finished MGS4 on my ex-roommate's PS3. About the HDMI cables you mentioned, I guess i need a male to male HDMI cable right? Don't know what's the difference between the normal and premium cables on the site, @Ameet, thanks for the link bro! Also, how is this one: http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-Meters-Supports-Channel/dp/B001T9NUJE/ref=pd_cp_e_2 Also, not sure about the power supply thing, can anyone please elaborate a bit? What will i need to run the US bought PS3 in India? Will i only need a pin convertor or a step down transformer (as required by Nintendo Wii i guess)
montylee
Also about getting it to India, should i just pack everything in the original PS3 box and put it in the check-in luggage? It may be too big to fit in carry on luggage and i am not sure if it's allowed in the carry on luggage. Is it ok to take it in the box or do i need to remove the box? silentassassin
i dont think u'll need a step down converter..I'm jus using the pin converter...Mine is fat though.. My PS3 came in Check In luggage...It was sealed BTW
AtheK
carry it in your check in bag, they will not stop and even if they do tell them there is a laptop inside
montylee
Move Bundle in India is rumored at Rs. 23-25K odd. I'm estimating it to be on the higher side of the range. Given that you're getting it at $400 (with the USD hovering around the 45 mark) you're better off getting it from the US as you'd save close to 7K. India PSN store should be up and running by next month. Else we won't be getting any GT5 special editions. Check out Monoprice as they have some good deals from time to time on cables. As for the powersupply, you don't need a stepdown transformer. Just a pin converter. Depends what you want to do and how paranoid you are. I always bring in my consoles minus the original box and stow it in my hand carry. Did that with the Wii (NTSC U/C, Singapore) and PS3 (NTSC/J, HK) I got. As for my X360 Elite (PAL, UK), I got the folks to get rid of the packaging and place it in the check-in luggage. IMHO boxes attract attention. However you can take your chances if you're willing to show the customs guys your receipt of purchase as they can't give you grief if you've brought electronics under the value of 25K. Thanks for the info bro. So, i guess it's ok to take the PS3 in hand baggage too. Once i get the PS3 i'll decide how to bring it In any case, i'll make sure i have the receipt with me. i dont think u'll need a step down converter..I'm jus using the pin converter...Mine is fat though.. My PS3 came in Check In luggage...It was sealed BTW Thanks for the info carry it in your check in bag, they will not stop and even if they do tell them there is a laptop inside well i can't tell them i have a laptop inside checked-in baggage as i'll already have a laptop in carry-in bag and they only allow 1 personal laptop
