Except for the wireless antenna which decides to crap out on its own I don't find any other issues. This baby is fast - really really really fast. Macallan Select Oak 1824 Collection. Yeah..it's amazingly quick..And I just found out today that it has a 160 GB SSD from intel instead of the normal disk drive After using this for a few days, now I can appreciate why these thinkpads command such a high price BTW, wifi has been good for me on it so far.. In areas where my personal laptops see only 20-30% signal and crap out at a max of around 700 kBps, this guy sees a stable 80% strength and shows a throughput of around 2-3 mBps. Oak flavour is Bourbon (I think) because this one uses American Oaks. Shall know once I pour this and enjoy with some cigarellos I also got. Uuuuhhhhh nice - I have a regular 320 GB hitachi. Over the years I have realized that the thinkpads make very good laptops - they just don't look funky. When the wifi adapter works it works really well - but it decides to switch off on its own suddenly after some period of inactivity and the only way to switch it back on is through device manager (disable / enable). There are settings to stop it from going to sleep but it doesn't work. Huge pain when I leave something on for download and in the morning I see only an hour's worth has been done. That's probably the reason because most suits don't travel so much - the ones that do usually have a netbook. It's very rugged for travel also. Exactly..by looking on lenovo's website I used to think they don't have anything then why the high price..But when I saw the internals, they turn out to be excellent in everything they use..e.g. on the box that i got, i saw 160gb hdd..crap..that's low..then yesterday found out that its actually an intel SSD mentioned nowhere on the box or the documentation i received, neither on the website..Similarly when I used to see the fingerprint reader on these, I used to think of them as a gimmick but they are very accurate and so easy to use that I feel it a pain now to use my personal laptops by entering passwords..The build quality is good, no flex anywhere at all. I've noticed flex on ALL laptops including high priced alienwares and MBPs but this one doesn't have any flex..All the internal components are good as well although the user-facing specs remain the same..My IT guys also told that they have the most excellent service even more so than apple. In fact, they say that for all the corporate lappies purchased so far they get the best service in this descending order IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads->Dell->HP->Apple->Others. Ranking in terms of failure rates was like this Thinkpads->Dell->Apple->HP->Others... and this is not a random IT guy speaking out of his arse, he actually showed me the annual internal audit reports that is done in their department by quantifying all reported incidents for making purchase decisions.. That said, I don't think I'd ever buy a thinkpad for personal use as I can't justify the price gap if I have to pay for it from my own pocket. For that price, I could just buy a good-spec'ed non-thinkpad laptop every year for 3 years instead of using the same thing for 3 years.. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
