OT- But what kind of water should be used for goldfish? :P

Does hard water suit them or should I avoid keeping fish cause the water is quite hard in my area.

Goldfish are pretty hardy fish IMO so they'll likely adjust to the hardness of water in your tank. I fill my Goldfish tank (and my other Tiger Barb and Pleco tank) with tap water. The current pH is 8.3-8.4 range in both of my tanks and the fish have never had any problems.

If the water in your area has a higher pH range then you can also consider keeping Cichlids or Livebearer fish. They do well in hard water. :)

Thanks. Will check out the ph before buying the fish. Hardness levels are definitely high as the water scales almost everything, including bottom of the plastic buckets we use for bathing.

Good idea then to test the pH of the water in your area before adding fish. I use this to test the pH in my tanks:

Digital Pen Type pH Meter
