Systematic
Hey peeps, Is there anyone on the forum who's using an Airtel 2mbps package for x-live...like: Combo 777 / Combo 999? If yes, then is it any good or do they cheat you on speed? -Thanks

Systematic
I was particularly referring to the 2mbps plans and if anyone has used them to satisfaction...
lastAvenger
Ok I will go ahead and answer your question. Airtrel's 2mbit line is pretty rock solid. You should get a b/w speed of 255kb/sec / 255kb/sec which is awesome as its symmetrical. It should work fine for Xbox Live and PSN. You shouldn't face any lag or anything with it but be careful to not exceed your 6 gig limit because i am yet to find a way through which i can track the b/w used by Xbox 360. Systematic
Xbox live usually uses between 10-20 MB per hour for online gaming, however this can vary by what game is being played... For example a 16 player Halo 3 could even use 25-30 MB per hour. Another question, does Airtel as well as all the other ISPs i've used require you to login through a probe before you can access the net? -Thanks. vinitwins
^ my tests (conducted a few months back) revealed data usage almost 3-4x higher than the numbers you have posted - in the vicinity of 75MBph V
Systematic
^ my tests (conducted a few months back) revealed data usage almost 3-4x higher than the numbers you have posted - in the vicinity of 75MBph V The answer I gave you is a MS handout. The actual usage depends on several factors including your friends, VOIP, messages, updates and many other things. So 10-20-30 is only calculating the actual gameplay without the other secondary functions.
vinitwins
^ my data is from real-world tests conducted while playing cod2 & gears of war with 6-8 players using voice chat (the variance while playing pgr3 and table tennis was too large and hence those results were inconclusive) V ps: initial (might be slightly inaccurate) halo3 MP tests revealed even higher data usage (~150MBph) while messing around in FORGE and ~80-90MBph while playing big team battles. Like I said, secondary functions especially VOIP (Voice chat/Voice over IP) make a significant difference. And as you said yourself "real-world", Msft doesn't know the meaning of real. nope it doesn't need it So basically it's an always ON connection that is active as soon as the PC boots up? L33TWiZaRd
My suggestion would be to go for a 512 unlimited. it's 1499 excluding taxes and the line is a-symmetrical so u get 512up/512down. P.S: I'm using that connection right now and it's brilliant for gaming and hosting

P.S: I'm using that connection right now and it's brilliant for gaming and hosting A little too steep at $40 a month. I currently have Tata BB 128kbps UL and I have a few choices as to what to go for next...either: -Reliance Fiber Optic: 300kbps UL @ 999 -Upgrade to Tata 256kbps UL @ 999 -Airtel 256 UL @ 999 -Airtel 2mbps @ 999 (6GB DL limit) But the thing that holds you from making a decision is the 500 bucks they charge you for installation. Does Airtel charge 500 as well for installation (Mumbai) ?
MarketTantrik
This thread should be merged with the "Which Internet Connection............." thread.
L33TWiZaRd
They don't charge you anything at least for installation here in Gurgoan. But they do charge 500 as refundable security deposit on the adsl modem they provide. P.S: BTW, if you go for the 1499 512 unlimited plan, they don't charge you Rs99 as modem rental separate. vbhoj74
How does the whole speed on demand thing work n charges? You can enable SOD (speed on demand) from their website by using your modem login credentials (phoneno_dsl@airtelbroadband.in/password). They charge Rs75/hr for 2mbps and Rs 50/hr for 1mbps. On the Tourbo 1299 plan Rs 100 worth SOD is free, so you can enable 2mbps for an hr or 1mbps for 2 hrs during the day time for free of cost. At night anyways this plan gives you 1mbps. Also, there is no charge of downloads during SOD if you are on a non-UL plan too. And dont forget to disable it fro the same website, else it keeps on charging you per hr based on what speed you enabled.
