My Recordings

Man In The Box

Recommended Posts

Okay guys, whenever I get bored and don't have much to do I just try recording some of my riffs or solos that I play on my guitar and bass. So I just thought why not share it with you guys and see how you'll feel about it.

I am just posting 1 video at the moment and shall post more if I get positive feedback. (All types of feedback are welcomed btw ).

This is a guitar riff using only heavy metal power chords which I played today evening. Please note that I have myself decided the pattern of playing and not copied it from any instrumentals or any song.

The drum beats which you'll hear is just a drum recording which I have on my equipment. Thanks a lot for listening.

Hmm Led, even I think so but I don't understand how to correct it. Towards the end the play could have been better but I find it tough to hold the tone and I don't wanna use the whammy everytime.

Kick-a*s stuff bro, love it. B)

Did you go for guitar classes or learnt by yourrself? I learnt the basics myself, with the help of a friend, years ago. Planning to get back into playing the guitar now, since Ive got a little window of free time over the next few months. I barely remember anything of what I had learnt, except a few riffs, easy ones, ala Smoke on the water, Iron Man, Heartbreaker(Led Zep), Man Who Sold the World(Nirvana version) and Behind Blue Eyes.

Tried chords but am terrible at them. Shock horror.

What do suggest I should do?

Thanks Shekdown.

Chords is something even i'm not a fan of. I mean I LOVE playing power chords and some 7th chords but not a huge fan of rhythm guitaring overall. Infact, I find it impossible to play songs and sing at the same time. I have learnt guitar from a teacher and he tells me I play very good lead, bass and power chords but I am not that good in just strumming along different chords.

So I would suggest you to relax and not lose any heart. There are 3 main guitars you can learn - rhythm, lead, bass. But the fact is that without having a sound knowledge of the rhythm guitar, you cannot think of becoming very good with bass and lead. So I would suggest you to just go through the tough phase of first 3-4 months and learn rhythm guitar and after that you can easily get better in everything since that sense of music will be developed. Learning from a teacher is preferable. I myself have learnt playing all this stuff in 1 to 1 and a half months but that is because I had practised rhythm guitar for around 6-7 months and got a grip on the music. Now I can play lead, bass and rhythm but I do maintain that the knowledge of the various chords is very important.

Great stuff, Avi. Thanks for the inputs.

Do you suggest I go to a professionally run training center or get a personal tutor? We have a very well run training center for musicians, here, called Unwind Center. Dont know if its there across India. But if there is a personal tutor, would it speed up the learning?

I would any day go for a personal tutor because he will help you understand what kind of music you really love to play. In a music institute, they will treat you just like every one else and you will learn whatever they think is best for everyone else. With a personal tutor, you have a chance to get more creative and learn what you really want to.

All great stuff. Thanks again, man. I shall update you, and this thread when I start my classes late next month. B)

@LedViper7

Some great finger movements there and I really liked the piece overall . But your guitar sound was fading at times, dunno why.

@ Parth ...

That was not bad at all. Infact for a person who has started learning recently, you are superb :D. Btw that is an electric guitar only; so stop saying you only have acoustic guitar :chair:.

On a serious note, I liked the way you started it but one thing I would like to point out is that you are playing the theme a bit too fast. I mean you must have heard Slash playing it live too and he also plays it real slow and speeds it up afterwards because that is the beauty of the song. Also, this is one theme which is much easier to play on fast but very tough to play at real slow speed because although playing it isn't tough, it is a real bitch to keep up with the slow beats.

Anyway, thanks a lot for playing this theme as it reminded me of the times I used to play it . I have tried playing it again tonight on an acoustic guitar with a rhythmic beat. Let's see whether you guys like it. It's kinda rusty since I haven't played this song for a while now but nevertheless :P

  • 1 month later...

Ok guys, so I haven't been active in this thread for quite a while ! So well, today I recorded the introduction part of one of my favourite Metallica songs - Seek n Destroy. This song is really tough as you'll can notice from my finger movements and the worst part is that it's really fast. I have tried playing it but I must admit it's very confusing to have sense of the tempo if there is no drumming or a rhythm guitarist/ bassist. Also I don't have the same tone in my guitar as the one used in the orignal song but this was the closest tone that I could achieve. Anyway, do give me feedback whether you'll like it or dislike it :)
