Why do we preorder in India?

This is a genuine effort in trying to understand why do we preorder games and accessories in India? :P

Aren't the games magically appear onto the store shelves while the guy preorders cribs of not receiving his copy, which happens with most cases? Also I've seen that the vendors does not offer fast shippin options, if someone preorders I believe the motto is to secure a copy 1st hand in the country before the general public does. This very importance is grossly defeated with preorders in India.

The only thing I believe one gets while preordering is a mental peace that he would get. CE edition upon release and that delivery to class B cities will be made before it appears on the shelves.

I think we as the gaming community deserves better than this, and who is going to change this industry rule for us? Any takers?

1) Discount

2) Door step delivery.

Both of those components kind of balance out the late arrival of the game for me. Either way, it's not a race about who gets his copy first. So in that sense, I'm quite patient.

Pre Ordering in india is pretty much pathetic, milestone only dispatches copies form Mumbai or for that matter all the big distributors, they do not have branches in other metros, the games arrive in india usually a couple of days before release (Barring first party titles from MS and Sony) and that means they ship to Dealers and online vendors at the same time, so the copy show up at the same time :P

Im other countries, the games are shipped a day or two before release and is delivered usually on day of release, because of the wider distribution circle.

I stopped pre ordering ages back, and i don't see myself pre ordering unless there is a great freebie or i know the game would be limited in quantity

Atleast in US/UK; every major retailer tries to get a deal-breaker for pre-ordering from them. For instance, GS/shopto/game usually offer an in-game/physical bonus if you order from them. Shopto, sometimes offers a lesser price than others. Amazon offers redeemable cash cards/in-game items/price match guarantee etc.

Here in India, we had a gala time while the IVG preorders were existing :) But after that, its largely been tees/contests/random bonus items etc from retailers.

I don't think you guys would have got a EA tee if you would have bought FIFA 11 from a shop as compared to what the retailers were running here.

Here is something I quote from GT5 preorder of shopto, and what according to me means by a preorder:

If you pre-order Gran Turismo 5 before 12pm on Wednesday 3rd of November 2010 we will guarantee that you will receive it by the release date of Friday 5th of November 2010, if you do not receive it we will compensate you with £3.00 on your shopto account.

That is what I want from a preorder, a game in hand, any where in India, bang on the release date ! I dont mind paying the MRP for that service and few extra bucks for the optional expedited courier service. Gaming is passion, and present preorder system is a major spoiler ! Take for instance the recent pre-orders taken for the standalone move controller, we all paid for it, and than praying for it to get it released on some day and finally will frantically try to track it over a courier service webpage which only updates after delivery !

I think for once, lets do something about this that forces the system to give us what we deserve !

Let us all stop pre-ordering unless we have similar commitments like that quoted above !

:scratchchin: i was thinking about this.why aint IVG keeping pre-orders for biggies like Reach and GT5?!IVG pre-order trend was really good.the discounts and lucky draws by other vendors arent upto the mark.freebies FTW!

I pre-order cause I don't have a place to buy games locally , my nearest Music World sells only old games or crap loads like Fifa only , places like palika etc. are too far from my place.

So I pretty much have no choice basically , there is no proper vendor from Delhi as well , which makes it even longer to wait for me to receive games sipped from Pune unless I opt for DTDC Plus.

Pre-ordering in India sucks , but our hands are tied down , certainly mine is. :(

IVG-Preorders were exactly the same as deals by prashant/others here and even they used to be shipped on day 1 and considering all the effort organizers had to put in, in the end , every1 was still cursing for not getting the games day 1 ....

the whole mess there was milestone, used to make more money on direct IVG pre-orders and still couldn't ship games a couple of day earlier
