The TV Decision Making Thread

WebOS has matured like crazy. IMO, it is one of the best TV OSs right now (better than Android since I find the latter too cluttered), and gives a lag free experience. I would say the experience might depend on your storage and RAM too, so YMMV.

I use a C8 - 8GB storage and I think 3 GB RAM, and have never seen any stutters or slowdowns. Apps are quick to boot, switch etc. UI is snappy. The storage is only used if you download multiple apps (and possibly cache etc). If you are going to use a Fire Stick or Android box, and will not be using in built apps, the storage hardly matters. I personally feel many apps have better PQ on native apps vs FS (Netflix is a prime example - very visible difference of colors on FS vs WebOS app), and hence my FS usage is very very low.

Of course you can't download a movie via TV. You can play most formats via USB drive/disk on LG TVs (MKV, MP4 etc.). If the TV is HDR/DV enabled, all those will work too.

If we can't download movies using our netflix account on TV. Then why do these tvs have 8-16 GB storage? Apps only?

Also has someone seen LG 43UM7600 in action. I am a huge sony nut I'd say for accurate colors they are just right not too warm not too cool. Samsung afaik were warmer saturated and LG seem like a mix of cool and saturated colors.

Here are some of the current models i shortlisted based on my TV placement scenario.

LG 43UM7600

Samsung RU7470 43 Inch

Sony 43 inch X7500H/X7400H both same i guess

Nope, you can't.

Storage is still essential though. Install Netflix, Prime, Hotstar, something like Plex/Kodi, twitch etc and then cache builds up. It easily creeps up and above 600MB.

I still think storage is important irrespective of how optimized an OS is. Mostly because of future proofing, you never know when some important apps will launch in future and there may be even some non media apps that can be essential to the TV later on! If you are planning to buy a smart TV on 2020, you should be expecting it to last at least 2025-26. By that time, anything can change!

Sure there are android boxes option but why even go that way when you can get something out of the box.

Unless you're using native apps or Plex etc, it's a moot point. A TV is a self serving full fledged machine. You don't need nor will you get major updates.

I'll not be worried too much about space if FS is to be used primarily.

This is true as long as less means something like 8gb where usable memory is about 4-5 gb but you're definitely gonna feel this if you have 600mb of memory. Just last year there was no apple TV or Disney plus, today we don't have a dedicated HBO app but what if tomorrow HBO decides to have its own streaming service with dedicated app. Or if Disney would've gone for its dedicated app instead of going through hotstar. Not to mention the updates can be heavy for an app sometimes too.

Sure TV is a TV, but now smart tvs are advertising that we don't need other devices for media content any more, their OS is enough so I believe they should at least give storage for future proofing!

All those issues are solved via a Fire Stick or Android box.

That's why I said space is not an issue as long as you are not going to use native apps/Plex and are going to be dependent on 3rd party hardware (like FS). Dante, my man, you ain't reading right n**** ! :bash:

Yeah. Yeah. I got your point. Don't get all worked up [emoji14]

My point was that these smart tvs were supposed to be self dependent and all.

My tv will probably have 8gb, so no worries for me [emoji14]

I was checking out the reviews for sony x7500h while most seem positive none of them target if this white screen thing happens on all or just with this person, it's strange he is not pointing it out, instead pointing towards bluetooth connectivity. Let me know if this is normal, i don't know what this new screen bleeding thing is, idk if this is the same, it's shocking how buying a TV is so complex now.

It's just backlight.

Cheaper TVs are edge lit, so dark scenes are not really black, but grey. The more expensive ones might use FALD (full array local dimming), and depending on the number of zones used, you might be able to get good blacks on such TVs. OLEDs inherently turn the pixels off, so you get pure/real blacks.

What you're seeing in the pic is just poor black level of the TV. Of course, the effect is exaggerated in photos.

I'm worried man. The TV is priced at 50K or so. It has 16GB storage. Good response time, good colors i guess. But still it's bigger bro X8000h is also bad as per youtube reviews. Same reason is said about local dimming being Edge LED and missing VRR.

My old TV took the worst time to buy i wasn't planning on buying a new one till next gen released and stabilized for a year.

As it stand UM7600 is useless as i confirmed and seen a youtuber showing in settings it has 0.6GB storage for a 2019 TV is a total WTF.

Other option samsung 43 RU7470 2019. And the sony X7500H/7400H

If someone can suggest better 43 inch models for 50k do let me know. One youtuber said X7500 and X8000 are purposefully underpowered so buyers shift to X90 series.

Damn what do i do

Here are the things i really need from the TV

-43 inch or below due to lack of space
-Natural colors
-Low input Lag
-VRR if possible
-3+ HDMI Ports
-Good blacks
-Suitable to handle PS5 gen
-Around 50k

Do help me out if i wait are there new TVs releasing soon?
