True man. That was scary and hilariously reassuring at the same time.

The final words by the engineer though stood out as he wrapped up to leave. He said don’t buy oled ??

Apparently and I verified this from some fine print later as well, manufacturers do not cover burn in and it is considered normal wear. The only burn in cover is in the states if someone buys the Best Buy extended warranty but that’s not the brand warranty ofc.

Anyway back to my current setup, played around with the tv settings and decided PC mode input as a workaround for the Washed Out HDR was not worth it. Setup HDR in the standard preset and turned off all post processing. So far on the Series X haven’t noticed any apparent input lag. Will try the same on the Pro since that’s where my cod is.

PC mode is awesome for negligible input lag but it destroys the HDR and Colors are over saturated to the point where in Fenyx they become jarring.

Imo LG may have made PC Baaed on monitors which can't go beond 350 nits. That's why maybe you have higher nits on TV and the connected consoles might still be recognized as PC.

Anyway hope you can get good results in standard mode

Sony TV folks, is Nvidia Shield the only way to play files from USB with DTS:MA or TrueHD on these TVs ? Or is there a cheaper, more accessible option ?

I will be using TV speakers.

Also, these f**king nuisances make me appreciate the C8 SO MUCH MORE. The in built media player is excellent, while the Sony's player does not even read a single video file from my USB HDDs. :wallbash:

No lag on C8 in playing files 80-90 GB in size, instant playback, rewind, forward etc, while VLC stutters and MX Player sometimes will just keep on trying to read the file. Android TV is messy, super messy.

Why not install PLEX and set up a Plex server on your PC and then stream directly. If you have a decent router, it should handle 4K rips just fine. I tried 100 gb wala LOTR rips and they ran just fine.

Office laptop - can't install anything.

BTW, Nova Player was able to find the other audio tracks and chose the one which could play automatically. Fast, smooth. MX Player wouldn't even show the DD tracks for some reason. VLC, f**king stuttering mess.

Sticking to Nova for now.

Also, the TV keeps on accessing the HDD even after the TV is powered down. WTF Sony ? The LED keeps on blinking, the HDD keeps on spinning, and I can't remove it due to fear of damaging the platters/head. The only way is to go to settings -> storage -> external HDD -> eject. 4 step process, not hard, but not so intuitive for non tech folks. WebOS offers a small eject button RIGHT IN THE INPUT menu for quick ejection.

I guess I am whining, but WebOS is so damn superior. Crazy. These small things make or mar the experience for premium TVs.

Does it support 120FPS? I'm torn between this and x9000H. Where 9000H has the 120FPS confirmed so I'm leaning towards that.

I don't think so. Not investing in any next gen console at the moment, so honestly not worried about it.

Edit: Just based on non gaming experience, from a user's perspective, I'll urge you to go for an LG OLED over this. If I'm not wrong, CX supports 120 and VRR etc. Or wait for the next version.

My use case is for parents, with lots of DTH, hence I preferred this over OLED. WebOS is superior in usability. Miles ahead.

Try Kodi. It's a much more robust player.

If you don't use DTH much, go for OLED.

If you do then x90H is a good choice. x95G doesn't have HDMI 2.1, so even though it is 120hz, it can't do 4k 120.

It's crap on my TV. I tried Kodi, VLC, MX before settling on Nova.

I am not interested in Kodi plugins or repos, only it's HDD playing capability, and boy it stuttered as bad as VLC with big files.

Archos kept crashing.

From where can I download one of these files? I will check on my x90H and will let you know.

Ok so with my time with the X90H i played HDR games. And even if i kept the brightness low at 25/50 and contrast 65/100 the PQ was still bright.

Now the problem i am facing day to day is when i use my PC or even the phone the regular brightness that is around 35/100 now seems too low and pressures my eyes. I know high brightness is not healthy so i don't use it.

I am new to 4k HDR and these aftereffects are weird. I use eye drops suggested by my eye doctor so eye burn and fatigue is minimized.

But I'd like to know is this something you guys face, on reddit I've seen OLED owners having such issues.

Is there a brand with great PQ on low brightness contrast settings?

On sony everything looks good when you crank up the brightness to 35+ and contrast to 90+ but this is not ideal and with long gaming session it hurts the eyes.

I'd like something that gives same level of PQ with let's say brightness at 25/50 and contrast around 65/100

If gou have a reddit sub recommendation to ask the same thing maybe a medical opthalmalogist sub then do guide me to it.

Thanks

You are most likely experiencing issue due to poor PWM implementation. Layman-ish explanation here: https://www.oled-info.com/pulse-width-modulation-pwm-oled-displays#:~:text=Pulse-Width Modulation%2C or PWM,cause eye strain and headaches.

You can Google for more info, but the bottom line is if you are developing sensitivity to PWM, you will have to use high brightness.
