Hi guys, having failed to secure a PS5 pre order, I am now looking for a TV upgrade. I have 55 inch TCL P2 L55P2US 4K UHD purchased in mid 2018 when I bought my PS4 Pro. Sadly, only after buying did I find out that it had 8 bit HDR, so it turned out to be a dud for gaming.

I was looking at Sony X9000H and it seems to have good reviews for gaming. Is it the same as x90h that everyone keeps talking about? Would X9500H be better? Are there better options for a similar budget?

I would prefer 43 or 49 inch, but I can't seem to find any good alternatives.

Maybe I should just stick to my TV. Bug it is hard after having to played AC Valhalla etc for months on a monitor. My TV seems colourless and bland in comparison!

Edit: I have buyers lined up for my current TV, so I should be able to recover 20-25k of the cost.

If you like sony then X90J 50 inch

Yes, x9000H is same as x90H. I own it and I am very pleased with it. For its price, the PQ is great. But I won't suggest getting it for anything more than 90-95k post cashback, it's too expensive for what it offers at that level.

I won't recommend x9500H from a gaming perspective because it doesn't have HDMI2.1, so you'll miss out on 4k 120 and VRR.

But at this price, I will recommend to go with LG CX if your use case isn't letting the TV run for hours for DTH.

49" TVs are just not feature rich, you'll have to get 55" atleast. Maybe if LG releases its new 48-49" OLEDs it might change but not for now.

If you can wait with your current TV, I will say wait it out till OCT, that's when the big discounts come in and snag either the new OLED from LG or Sony x9500J (all the goodness of x9500H with HDMI2.1). 2021 sets are the way to go.

But if you just can't wait and want to recover some capital then sell the tv and continue gaming on your monitor till OCT and if that is not doable then x9000H will suit you well (bargain hard).

Dude you love X95J so much you forgot it's only 65 inches and up. At max i think he can go for 55 inch if he is already looking for 49 inch. Plus 65 inch X95J will be too costly, I'd go with a LG oled of smaller size.

Not really, many people end up ditching the small size and go for the bigger and better option. I think even you were looking for a smaller size initially before setting for 55".

x95 series is much better PQ wise than x90 and I was recommending the 65", that's why I said that it will be stupid if Sony decides to bring only 75" version here.

Yes i was forced by the market trends to go for 55 inch but the shifting i had to do for it had it's own struggles. 65 will be a very big jump if no wall mount option is available, sony is very tactful here they knew last year not to make X90H and X95H same sizes available, so that is why i think only 75 inch X95H was there.

Plus man i'd go for a 55 inch oled if safety of the device wasn't a concern, judging by his situation he might not be able to make a 65 inch jump, though he should not miss out on quality, plus after FALD vertical banding issues i had and online as well many people voiced panel lottery luck being bad with sony, i am a little worried with high investments in sony, i think 50-55 in ch sony LCDs are the max limit for the overprice they charge here compared to rivals in similar category, even older less feature rich sony oleds were 30-40k costly than LG.

If you can take care of OLED then you should absolutely go oled or bare minimum Mini-LED, DSE with standard FALD dimming isn't worth it.

I just hope this doesn't give wrong ideas to LG.

Go for 65 if you have space and viewing distance.. If you are wall mounting especially 55 will look small soon you will also have the feeling yaar 65 lena tha, so better wait and get 65, the difference will be 35-40K between both during sales..

Interesting discussion here on my question about TV in the morning. I really appreciate the input.

I used to live in a shared massive apartment, so I bought the 55 inch TV. Now I am in an apartment that is literally 10 times smaller! The 55" is a huge overkill. But I expect that in a few months, I will be in a bigger apartment again. But 65" will definitely be too much to lug around in a few months.

Right now, I can sell my current TV for about 22-23K (bought for 43k 2.5years ago). I will get 12K in tax rebate against the purchase (LTC cash voucher or something). So it is quite tempting.

But now I am again confused between Sony and LG. It doesn't help that neither Amazon nor ShopatSC had the Sony TV in stock at my Bangalore coincide.

I would say go with Sony if you are planning to watch a lot of content in day time as well. If you mostly watch content in night then LG is a no brainer.

FALD (Sony) if usage is high for DTH and in bright areas most of the time.

For everything else, there's an OLED. No comparison. I have both at home - the C8 trumps the X95G in every aspect. I don't expect things to change if the basic tech remains the same.

MiniLEDs with high QC are still some years away (I missed CES this year, so no idea if they have been announced).

This specific input is quite helpful. I expect a lot of gaming/tv watching in brightly lit rooms. I don't like to game in the dark anyway. So I guess Sony x90h is a good option. Hopefully it is in stock near me!

Actually @Bird Bird Bird has x95G which is much brighter than x90H, so here's what I'll recommend:

Go x90H if you will be using the tv a lot for DTH specifically, you don't have to worry about static logos in streaming or local playback.

If DTH is not the focus, go LG CX, hands down because CX has comparable or even a tad higher brightness than x90H and will suit better.

x95G, x95H and upcoming x95J are much much more brighter than x90 series.

If I plan to use Prime, Netflix, Hotstar etc more than DTH. I am a noob on TV matters so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Of course, console gaming will also be there. Given this,  what would you recommend @kunjanp

A few hours of DTH a day is fine but if streaming is what you plan to use more, LG CX no questions. But again, 1.15-1.2L at best. Above that you will be paying too much.
