Yep Apple TV+ is available, with 4K Dolby Vision.

Except SonyLIV missing, another drawback is no 4K in Hotstar. Can't think of any other major app which isn't there.

I have SonyLIV on CX :rolleyes:even got Voot which was missing initially

That looks so good. Now hopefully this tech comes to the 80 series model next year with an upgraded SoC for 4 2.1 ports and that will be my next upgrade.

If not then lack of those ports have started to pinch me so then probably the next LG C series if they also bring down the evo panel to those.

But man, absolutely love Sony.

Mandalorin - Can I watch as standalone without knowing any star wars background..

Won’t have the same nostalgic value.

Watch the original trilogy at least (eps 4,5 and 6).
Or you could go the reverse route and watch Mandalorian first and then connect the dots with Star Wars later.

My only issue with this Sony is that 1 of the only 2.1 ports is also an eARC port. Can’t connect both consoles directly to TV if you have a soundbar or receiver.

This, and their pricing. $4000 MSRP (I think the G1 is a $1000 less). There's a reason the LGs sell more units.

Also, they haven't patched in VRR yet.

Might (totally might, maybe, shayad) get the 55" CX.

I'm thinking I won't go any higher than ₹1.1L during my negotiations in the shops. Is that a fair ask or should I go lower? And no, I can't go for the 65" at all.

Also, apart from SonyLIV (I remember a guy from a store had mentioned that), which are the other major apps missing? Does it have the Apple TV+ app available?

That's the one thing I "might" miss from currently using an Android TV. Every app under the sun is available (from the Play Store or via sideload).

Thanks in advance for the responses.

SonyLiv & Voot are now available on the webOS store. I have them both on my C9. LG webOS has most of the popular streaming apps, the only thing I miss from my previous Sony is the in-built chromecast. You can still cast most apps to the screen, and where its not possible I use the Samsung Wireless Dex, which works well (apart from the fact that your phone's screen will also be on while casting)

With the Sony, I had also setup a Google Photos album as the idle wallpapers, which is also missing in the LG. Its a nice feature to have, but not a deal breaker for me. Over all, the OLED picture quality is waaay better than my previous Sony LED (X9000E). Plus the LG C series has VRR and HDMI 2.1 which is what made the decision for me over the Sony A8/A9.

Yes, I don't understand this decision. Don't know how much cost that will save on the MRP, but can't be too much, especially since LG is offering 2.1 & VRR on all HDMI ports and still managing to keep the costs so competitive. You also don't have a lot many AV Receivers in the market right now that pass through 4K@120 well. And for most 'non-audiophiles' a standard soundbar+satellite speaker setup is more than enough with very little Dolby Atmos content available at the moment.

Hotstar started supporting 4K HDR on Android TV, Firestick & Apple TV from Aug 2020. Its yet to be rolled out to the webOS app. I would have bought the 4K Firestick for Hotstar, but no spare HDMI ports :(

Even the Apple TV app supports 4K only on Firestick 4K and the Apple TV 4K box. Its not available on any other Apple TV app (Android, webOS, XSX). I really want to watch the Snyder cut in 4K HDR :(

Not sure about 4K as there is no way to confirm as info option doesn't show the resolution for Apple TV app on WebOS but it definitely played the movie in HDR.

Eh ? I believe Apple TV is 4k/HDR on WebOS. The streaming quality is possibly the best out of Netflix, Prime etc. Crisp, clear, clean, HDR.

Any way to confirm if Snyder cut is indeed 4k HDR on Apple TV webOS? This article here mentions Snyder cut in 4K is only available on the Apple TV box or firestick 4K:

https://gadgets.ndtv.com/entertainment/news/justice-league-snyder-cut-india-apple-tv-best-4k-hdr-dolby-vision-atmos-2393669

Any way to check the nerd stats for Apple TV? For most apps the 3 dots under the '9' key or the 'i' button on the LG TV Plus app seem to work.

I used the same to confirm Hotstar is not 4K on webOS with a confirmed 4K title (Togo) on Android TV.

It says DV/HDR the moment you start a supported show.

The shows look so crisp that I will be VERY VERY surprised if they are not in 4k.

That NDTV article threw me off. I've also checked around and all articles online mention 4K/HDR support on the webOS for Apple TV. I'll pick up the Snyder Cut on Apple TV - C9 and see if there is a way to enable the info level and confirm its in 4K

Bought Snyder cut on Apple TV. I'm getting a very weird aspect ratio, seems to be 4:3 @Mr. Comingle did you get the same? The TV triggered DV when the movie started and I skipped through a few parts and does look stunning, trying to figure out a way to get the resolution up. I remember one of HDTVTest vids where he said how to enable 'debug' sort of mode

Movie is in 4:3 aspect ratio only.

Also, what do you mean when you say that you are try to get the resolution up? How do you know it isn't already 4k?

I mean, I'm trying to see if there is a way to show what the current on-display resolution is, I just want to be sure. The NDTV article has sown doubts in my mind.

It looks crisp and it is in HDR. Why are you worrying so much about this? It says 4K HDR in the app itself and it looks great. Just watch it

Cos I can borrow a Firestick 4K from a friend and I'd rather be sure :) it's a 4 hour movie, won't be able to watch it twice. Will go ahead and watch it if I'm not able to borrow the 4K FS
