The TV Decision Making Thread

Oh ok then probably poor content to show the quality of the picture....Because their lower sized TV like the VU 32" its actually really good and I am talking the display on local cable not even DTH...

So check it out with the PS4 and other stuffs you were telling and download some good 4K videos and watch...Do tell how it was mate...Good luck with the decision...

As the size of the TV increase you need to keep increasing the viewing distance, but more importantly the quality and the power of TV starts showing up. 32" is not too big so it can do well but with double the size it starts struggling.

Yeah thats probably right because people might prefer micromax or Xiaomi for lower end mobiles but when they want quality and good specifications they go for well known brands,it similar to that....Something delivering good quality at lower sized screens might not get it right on higher sized screens...

Guys please suggest if 42LG553A is good enough...the difference between this and 42LF560T is there is some smart link mobile thing (how useful it is) and also there is some more few picture mode settings in the 42lf560t.

Among the 2, I would go for the 42LF560T

It has some extra codec support, mhl (may come in handy at rare occasion), hdmi ports on the side (useful if you wall mount) and inbuilt digital receiver (may be not comparable to the likes of Tata sky airtel etc.. but still if the packs are cheaper, would be good)

Also price diff is about 3.5k so I think if you are going to spend 50k then 53k should not be a big deal..

Finally the TV got installed yesterday... Here is the list of pros and cons I have found till now...

Firstly the cons:-

  1. Movies playback from USB drive is not upto the mark. Tried 1080p 5gb rip of Avengers and the quality was meh.. Had to adjust a lot of settings like color, contrast, sharpness etc to make the movie viewing a decent experience.
  2. 720p movies(1gb rips) of old times like Iron Man 1 etc were pathetic.. Heavily pixalated.. It gives an experience similar to viewing hd camrips..
  3. x265 videos are not recognized by the TV via usb
  4. HDMI cable quality matters I guess.. Since I connected my PC using a cheapo HDMI cable and the resolution itself was non adjustable along with poor quality of display with heavy pixalation..
  5. Not enough customizable picture settings.. Like if you set user defined color, contrast, brightness etc.. There is only 1 slot for it.. I would have liked to have one setting for movies via usb, one for desktop via vga and another for my ps4..

Now the pros:-

  1. PC display when connected via vga port is great.. Movies playback is awesome quality using vlc..
  2. PS4 display via HDMI also is great
  3. TV is able to detect my 1TB hard drive
  4. Good quality 1080p videos like this is a pleasure to watch in youtube.. Display quality is worth the price..

Will update more once I receive the teewe stick and try it out..

If others figure out any workaround for the USB playback quality issue, please let me know..

I doubt the above 2 are entirely the TV's fault. Those 'rip's are heavily compressed and will generally look shitty on any big screen. Try with 'quality' content (like the youtube one you've mentioned).

Normally I used to download the 720p yify rips (about 900mb) till 2 years back when I had a 19inch acer monitor (720p).. So those were heavily compressed hence I shouldn't expect much from it..

But then when I got a samsung pls monitor (1080p), I switched to downloading 1080p rips (about 2gb).. Which were kind of ok to view in monitor..

So I thought that the 5gb rip of avengers would be premium quality :P

Also I had tested a samsung 40 inch tv, which I purchased an year back for my parents with similar content.. And the quality was much better compared to the VU one..

But then again I guess you can't expect more from a 18k tv.. :)

Maybe the media player hardware itself is at fault.

For the past 6 years I've had this Haier 32 incher and I played the same rip of "The Lorax" from the PS3, Oplay and Sony HT systems and the best viewing experience was via the PS3 followed by the OPlay followed by the HT. I guess a combination of TV and Player that makes all the difference? If I compare my TV+PS3 combo it beats the crap out of my parents Panasonic + HT and my brothers Bravia + Oplay.

Or maybe I'm blind or biased or both :P . Always a possibility.
