Have never really used Android TVs but isn't it a better option to buy a non andriod smart TV and connect a chromecast/roku stick?

Absolutely.

What's the difference between Android vs. other smart TVs? Don't all have pretty similar apps and usage? I'm not into Android gaming nor have any Android devices.

Second, why is Chromecast/Roku required for non-Android TVs?

Chromecast is a media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. Simply use your mobile device and the TV you already own to stream your favorite TV shows, movies, music, sports, games and more. Chromecast works with iPhone®, iPad®, Android phone and tablet, Mac® and Windows® laptop, and Chromebook.

Am I missing something? Because all it does is stream which can be done directly on smart TV, yes?

Can chromecast not run android on TVs? Lol I was under the impression it could.

Anyway , then what I meant was to connect any device that would enable android apps on your regular smart/non smart TV, in case you are keen to run them.

Since you don't really care for android on TV, I guess smart tv is more than enough for you.

Android tv runs android os and can install majority of the android apps. Lg uses webos and Samsung uses tizen. You will obviously have more apps on an android ecosystem. But then the regulars like Netflix, youtube, prime are available on all platforms. Als if you have any console you will have the native apps on the console itself. I have found that Xbox One S is the best Multimedia player in this regard.

In your case any normal smart tv will suffice.

You can cast your Android phone on tv and then basically do what ever you want.

In my opinion, smart TV itself is a bit of an overkill. The chromecast will do most of the streaming without a hitch.

But if you had to go for a smart TV, I'd see the Android TV as the way to go.

The apps are better, the implementation of the apps is as good as the android on your phone, and are well updated.

You can also sideload apps like you would do on your phone.

And android TVs have chromecast built in.

Super 4 series is being launched by letv on Thursday, but they are not getting the 55" and 65" tvs.

Will probably pick the 50" as I am guessing it will be around 55k, that is the cheapest hdr10 TV I can buy.

I heard that LeTV recently ramped down on their operations.

Something fishy here. So you may wanna hold back on that purchase.

Ya they did, basically they have burnt too much cash trying to expand too quickly.

That said they said india operations is pretty important for them, hence the launch in india. They are restructuring to probably make them profitable.

Either way this is going to be the secondary tv to replace my ageing LG 42" in the HT room.

  • 4 weeks later...

How is the quality of VU 42" full hdtv compared to LG 42" fhd tv? Also after sales service of VU?

After sale of micromax, vu, etc will always be bad because they spend all the money on marketing and advertising instead of after sales. Go for LG.

Almost made up my mind to buy 55" samsung KU6000, getting an imported one for 74k. One year seller warraywhuch I guess is worthless, but it's almost like getting a TV from Abroad.

A heavy investment, for a TV without warranty :fear:

Don't you have a 65" lg tv too? :P

Got a 55" lg, and a 65"letv at dads place. Picking this for HT room.

Look for 7 series or higher. 6000 series doesn't support 10 bit HDR and wide color gamut. At least that's what it is in US.

Ya it's the same here it is a 8 Bit panel, but then everything else is expensive and don't wanna spend too much on this one. Had kept a budget of around 60K, was hoping Le Eco will price the X4 series sensibly, but that did not turn out to be the case.
