A person from digimart is telling me that i can get my console modded with the security seal (new)

I bought the console from India in Feb 2007 .Nowadays its packed up as I am preparing for boards....Should I get it modded plzz suggest ???

Possible but risky, ppl trying that end up getting their warranty void. ( you may, may not get banned online as its more of ur luck, but 95% chances are you loose warranty rest 5 % includes risk ).

Such lousy mods in this forum (looking at you umang). Again double posting.

@Darth Ali Akbar: How much are they charging you ?

Secondly, almost everyone with a modded console got banned from xbox live this last month.....including myself . So if you plan on using the xbox live service for online gaming and market place. Then i advice AGAINST it

^ i think you mean XBL (and not PSN).

ok now back to the OP - there are a few things to consider:

1. warranty - you will most likely lose your warranty (even a new seal/sticker is not a gaurantee that your warranty claims will be honored as M$ has started checking returns more carefully). and the 360 isnt exactly known for its stellar hardware quality.

2. XBL - if you want easy access to the pirated DVDs available in the market, then you cannot flash your 360 with newer stealth firmware as they wont run most of the backups/pirated games that are available (and without the newer firmware you risk getting instantly banned on XBL). basically you will need to keep yourself updated about new firmware releases, download games from the net (~8gb per game) and burn them on expensive (and not very reliable) DL media. the whole process is convoluted and requires extensive investment of time and energy. and playing backups on XBL is risky, so you would still need to purchase those games you wanna play online (GOW, HALO3, COD4, OB, PGR4, FIFA08, Burnout, etc)

1. MS has rolled out phase 1 against modders. They are now detecting discs that are not properly stealthed and banning the console from XBL. This means that your console cannot be used on live again.

2. The second phase will be implemented in 08 where they ban the gamertag which means that you lose all your score, achievements, points and membership. They will also ban the box.

3. Since the recent update they are able to detect backups played offline and can accordingly flag the device id.

Don't bother with the infectus as they have figured out a way to detect it.

I suggest that you buy a few good games with replay value and really enjoy them. My choices would be Gears, Shadowrun, COD4, Lost Planet, Halo 3, R6 Vegas.

It is very easy to figure out that a person is playing bootlegs. One look at the tag and its very obvious. Keep it legit.

Guys, correct me if am wrong...since he bought his console from India, wouldn't that make his console a PAL VERSION ??? And if he gets his console modded, he will ONLY be able to play...

1. Pirated Region Free Games.

2. Pirated games from his OWN REGION.

Right ??? Also, AFAIK, he won't be able to play ALL the pirated games that are available here in the gray market as most of them would be NTSC OR NTSC-J, except of course the region free ones.

Am not sure about this coz I haven't checked out the 360 scene in quite a while and may be now there is an updated firmware version for flashing the DVD drives to make the compatibility better ? I haven't checked out "the scene" since I dropped the idea of buying a modded 360 coz of the RRODs :)

^^ You are right on teh region compatibility issue.

Haha...I knew it :)

Lol...I've seen so many people literally crying and begging for Yuvraj Singh Cricket at the gray market. They can't play it coz of the region compatibility even though their consoles are modded :)

^ most of the modded consoles available for sale in the grey market are NTSC-J machines. since he's gonna be modding his retail box, then yes, he will be limited to using region free or PAL backups (but most publishers are opting to release region free games nowadays - *beep* you EA - so that's not gonna be a big criteria any longer)

  • 5 months later...

I dont think it'll make much of a difference.. if u r afraid to loose warranty, don't... the suport from MS is useless anyways..

the best way to prevent 3RROD is to get an xclamp fix and make sure u keep ur xbox in (overly) ventilated place..

but in case of xclamp fix, u'll loose ur warranty anyways.. but believe me, if u can get the fix successfully done. its worth loosing the warranty..

the sights of xbox dying on you gives hell of a sinking feeling...

u can modd it after that
