Marseille could have sealed the deal twice and they messed up even on good counters but the way they were playing wasn't really something you want to see in the later stages. Bayern have themselves to blame for poor defending and just holding the ball without any purpose. Eto'o comes around, unbalances one defender and then slots it wide to Pandev to end Bayern's dreams to qualifying for the next round. Brilliant football today.

Man we miss Vidic too much when he is not available , he played in the Chelsea and Arsenal game and United back was so much solid with him around.

He didn't play at Anfield and tonight and our defense is all over the place. :samui: , I'm so glad we have Van Der Sar , but he is set to retire too at the season end. :panic:

Brown  Other than that, I think we played pretty well. Some b-e-a-utiful passes and Rooney, Valencia, Chicha :majesty:

Rooney's passes were awesome... Valencia's movement on the right will give teams nightmares. I hope he plays Nani on the left and Valencia on the right with two up front (one being Rooney, who can fall back) :)

The way everyone was getting hamstring injuries yesterday was a bit ominous but they pulled through. That back line isn't where it needs to be and against faster-paced and more accurate passing teams it will crumble. They missed so many sitters to put the game away yesterday. On another note, did anyone see Mario playing yesterday? Why in the world isn't he even half of that for the national team?

Fergie banned for five matches. FA :chair:

why 5 it should be 10.Fergie got 1 bad game from the ref and he was crying.while arsenal gets screwed every alternate game by the refs but Arsene Wenger doesnt cry like fergie.he complains but doesnt cry like Fergie did against Atkinson.

i can see the three games but taking 2 from last year? total ridiculousness. This accumulation schema is quite funny lol. But to be honest SAF has been a nutter towards the refs in general so it was a long time coming and you don't go out and make comments like the one that was made without expecting repercussions. You can win a 100 titles but the FA in any country will treat you like a spring chicken if you touch one of their own.

Does this makes a difference , if there is someone who can even boss around from stands its Fergie , have seen him do that before.

In this day & age , when u have cellphones and bluetooth's are used like salt & pepper , I see no problems.

But yeah 5 matches is a very hefty ban , FA should be focus on banning a**hole refrees from the league instead of managers.

Sir Alex Ferguson handed five-match ban for outburst

By Matt Slater

BBC sports news reporter

Ferguson criticised Atkinson after Man Utd's defeat by Chelsea

A Football Association tribunal has given Sir Alex Ferguson a five-match touchline ban for his comments about referee Martin Atkinson.

The Manchester United manager was found guilty of improper conduct for criticising Atkinson's display in the loss at Chelsea earlier this month.

"You want a fair referee, or a strong referee anyway - and we didn't get that," Ferguson told MUTV.

The ban starts on 22 March and includes the FA Cup tie against Manchester City.

The Independent Regulatory Commission's sanction is made up of a three-game ban for the Atkinson remarks and the activation of a two-game suspended ban that Ferguson was given last season for suggesting referee Alan Wiley was not "fit enough" to keep up with play.

The three-man panel also fined the 69-year-old manager £30,000.

The reasons for the decision will be sent to Ferguson in the next 24 hours and he then has 48 hours to decide if he wants to appeal. This is why the sanction does not start until after Saturday's home league game against Bolton Wanderers.

Should he accept the punishment, the Old Trafford boss will have to watch the Premier League games against West Ham, Fulham, Everton and Arsenal from the stands, as well as the semi-final against local rivals City at Wembley.

His outburst about Atkinson followed a hard-fought clash at Stamford Bridge that saw United score first but lose to second-half goals from David Luiz and Frank Lampard, the latter coming from the penalty spot.

Ferguson was furious that Luiz had not been sent off for fouls on Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney after the Brazilian defender had already been booked. He was also angry about the decision to award Chelsea with a penalty when Yuri Zhirkov fell under Chris Smalling's challenge.

The veteran manager may consider himself a little unlucky about the severity of the punishment as he did temper his remarks in the MUTV interview by changing his initial comment about wanting a "fair referee" to the less contentious "strong referee".

But the FA has clearly taken into account the final warning he was effectively given last season for criticising Wiley and the fact he contested these charges.

In terms of how the punishment compares to other touchline bans handed out in British football, it is the longest in Premier League history but three games short of the two consecutive bans Celtic manager Neil Lennon is currently serving in Scotland.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was given a 12-game ban from the dugout for pushing a fourth official in 2000 but that was reduced to one game on appeal.

Fergie finally getting the book thrown at him

However you know the sad thing here right? It won't stop him from being the way he is. I still don't agree with this accumulated garbage but its good that the FA is showing the rest of the teams that they don't care who they do what to. For a while we will see some docile managers till it happens again.
