Nemo
no.. NO! Theres absolutely no life in him after AV... He's been given plenty of chances at city but has only been a disappointment throughout... his crosses have vanished, he has forgotten to cut inside and he has shown no creativity... Also, the cut price from 27m would still seem expensive for him when yu can have N'Zogbia for 10m.. N'zogbia does not have the best of attitude. dont hink he is the best player for us, even for that price range. I am a fan of milner's. Sure he had an ordinary season with city but I would like to think it might be because of all the chopping and changing and Mancini's preferance for 3 DMs. Milner can play on wings but he aint a winger. His best spot is a Lampard like box to box, where he shined at Villa, that quality does not just vanish suddenly.
Madhav
Charlie Adam to Liverpool for £8m almost done.. Milner was a beast at AV and even though he lacked everything at ManC when played on wings, he also didn't prove much when played a couple of times through the middle.. I saw him missing so many passes & mostly were just simple linking ones... I do see him flourish in Lampards role, but firstly I dont want Chelsea to be risking another signing and secondly I want this Chelsea tactic/formation to change for good... Bring in Wings ffs... 2 quality wingers with Torres uptop and a serviceman playmaker right behind.. A 25goal season for Torres right there!!! Mel81x
^^^^ You guys are starting to sound like us last season. I don't think you want someone feeding Torres balls in the air (how wrong that sounds) but someone that will run with him and create links. He doesn't really thrive with his head but likes chasing the ball when its pushed up to him from behind. When you look at most of the tactics used last season with him, the ball would come to him and everyone would just spread out. Granted its a different team but if you see him playing close-quarters you'll see him shine. He likes to run past defenders and create opportunities for himself but those won't come with crosses, they will only come with passes. Madhav
WOW? What about Drogba? You didn't even mention him! So? He is 33 & has 1 year at Chelsea... Torres & Drogba to be used at tandem.. But the main focus has to be on the 50m guy.. what was so wrong in thinking that by yurself ??
Nemo
True that mel and madhav. torres should be our focus now. DD aint gonna give us much in coming season/s specially as 2 ACN (in successive years no less, dem africans be crazy lol) are going to happen. As much as i love DD and his heading ability, over reliance on that tactic has to go.

Chelsea play too narrow these days... when a good opposition is up against, we are unable to spread the game and take it to them.. Wingers dont always have to play wide... They can surely produce those killer balls which Torres is always hungry for... Whatever the tact AVB applies, I just don't want to see Lampard as our saviour everytime... We know what happened last year without him... Its scary the influence he has on the team...
Mel81x
Look at the squad you'll are building and then take a step back and ask if you'll really want a wing attack option to be a primary focus as well. The team you'll have is going to flourish more with passing than with guys creating wing opportunities. Lets not forget however that this is the PL so that tactic has seemed to serve everyone else well but taking a new approach can't hurt you'll. Plus, when you look at your new coach he's worked with a team where wing attacks were not really the primary focus and building play from the half line was considered more crucial to the tactical response of a faster attacking team. Knock the wind out before they get past the half line and find a way to move the ball up. While he might have moved to Chelsea he will have his own idea and strategies in mind to bring to the table. I am thinking there's some monkey signings left in this window for you'll. Take Lampard out of that equation replace it with Gerrard and you're back to us again. I am kind of glad he did get a knock towards the end of the season because at that point someone had to step up to the plate and say "look hes gone and we can't always rely on him". What came after that was what we should have been doing from day one. Edited July 6, 2011 by Mel81x

vignesh90
Exactly. Drogba is still going to be the one who is going to score some goals for you. To me, drogba combined with Torres is what makes Chelsea's attack deadly.
gooner4life
Rosell (president): "Cesc? Things are the same. I like players who show they want to join. We'll let the water flow to the river" [via ona] Why dnt they quit chasing him when they cant pay his value!! Beggars cant be choosers!! To me, drogba combined with Torres is what makes Chelsea's attack deadly. Wise man, Drogba cannot combine with Torres as both score goals and not link the play... Drogba worked out most of the goals through air balls and then it was a physical dual between him and the defender... with Torres in there, it was suicide to continue the same strategy... Torres asks for a killer ball and then it was a quickness test between him and the defender.. both have the same mind set but work it differently.. 442 only works if the 2 up front compliment each other.. When both are gonna do same thing, then its redundant to choose such a formation... Now, if the position of Drogba gets a replacement of a flair player who has vision to setup goals, then we are gonna get something out of the 50m... Why cant it work when 2 are behind Torres and 2 a little wider?? Game becomes more open, Torres becomes more open, consequently more room for Torres to make runs as the opposition gets spread... A team playing narrow gets shut down/closed down very easily if playing against a good opposition... Manu will take us on since day one if we play narrow again... Mel81x
Well when you put wide-midfielder in there it sounds a better I still think you'll will do a whole lot better than you'll did this season its only a few more months to see what AVB can do for you'll. The way I look at it, Chelsea should play 4-1-2-1-2. With Torres and Drogba upfront, you need a creative midfielder backing them up. I wouldn't put Lampard there, May be Malouda or someone new if signed can play that position. This will create beautiful opportunities to both of them , two strikers who can finish quite well. Drogba with power and Torres with skill and pace! It would be suicidal to keep Drogba out of the equation.
