Fulham sign John Arne Riise !!!!!

Disappointed that he is leaving AS Roma but this will be a huge boost for Fulham. Will miss seeing Riise in the Serie A :(

I remember him being about as useful as cardboard during his time at L'pool. Sometimes he was a god-send and on other days you wish there was a hole big enough to send him to China.

Hmm. But Riise did have his moments back at Liverpool. I think he was really dangerous in the Serie A due to his long range shooting ability as there are a lot of open spaces to run into in that league wheras the Premier League is becoming more fast-paced every season. Let's see how he does in the Premier League after such a long gap.

I like it. Writing needs a bit more refinement and the drops in the thought process can be overlooked but it kind of outlined what Arsene needs to do before the next season. Now the more important question. Who wrote it? And I don't mean the name but was it someone from here? :)

If anyone missed it - http://www.fifa.com/u17worldcup/news/newsid=1472836/index.html

Whenever I read an article like that I am just gutted that Portugal never went the distance when they should have. The Golden Era should have produced a much better end-result with the team that they had assembled but it all just fizzled. The only bright note to take away from any Portugal performance is that they make a meal out of England every time they meet them lol

I had written it, mate. I noticed I had skipped thoughts here and there but thats largely because I wanted to make it slightly smaller. I prefer writing longer articles and the last time I did that, a lot of people got turned off by the length before even reading. So Im just trying to create some audiences right now. Maybe once people take notice, I will revert back to doing what I do best.

Thanks for the inputs though, I will be sure to work on it. More views will be appreciated.

Im planning on writing my predictions for the up-coming transfer and season for the top teams, in a weeks time. Stay tuned.

Falcao extends Porto deal

Porto's prolific Colombia international striker Falcao has agreed to extend his contract by two seasons until 2015.

Premier League outfit Chelsea have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old marksman following their appointment of ex-Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas over the summer.

Falcao's previous deal had a €30million (£26.2m) release clause attached, however, that has now been increased to €45m (£39.4m).

The striker is coming off the back of a season to remember having plundered 38 goals last term, helping Porto claim a treble of Portuguese Premier League, Portuguese Cup and Europa League.

Falcao became the top all-time scorer in a single Uefa club competition, scoring 17 goals in the Europa League campaign to break a record previously held by Germany's Jurgen Klinsmann.

He joined the Portuguese giants from Argentina's River Plate in 2009 and has scored an incredible 73 goals in 85 games.

@Falcao Staying: Good for him. I honestly think they will do well if they can get their act together in that no-mans-land they play at the back between the DMF arc and the CMF.

Fergie - No Sneijder interest

Sir Alex Ferguson claims his club have "no real interest" in signing Wesley Sneijder as Paul Scholes' Manchester United replacement.

The United boss has devoted much of his summer to solving the conundrum of who will fill Scholes' boots.

It did seem Sneijder was on the brink of leaving Inter Milan, only for Ferguson to claim there was no United interest in the Holland midfielder.

"Time and time again we have faced this problem," he said.

"We have lost great players and you are worrying about it. But eventually something turns up, either through our youth system or we will identify someone."

It was thought Sneijder was that man, with speculation mounting a deal was imminent and discussions had taken place between United chief executive David Gill and Inter Milan officials in Zurich on Wednesday that created the potential for a transfer.

But Ferguson said: "The situation is that there is no real interest in Wesley Sneijder at this moment in time for a lot of reasons.

"There is nothing I can tell you about it. I have not really been involved in it since I came across here."

It is plausible that, taking into account Sneijder's vast wages and transfer fee, the sums just do not add up for United to splash out on a 27-year-old, even if someone will have to fill the void created by Scholes' retirement.

"It is a loss," said Ferguson. "Paul was a player of a lifetime. In his 20 years at the club, it is hard to pick out a bad game. He was such a consistent player for us.

"I don't think we will find another Paul Scholes. But hopefully we can replace him. Maybe we will find a different type of player."

The search is under way as clearly it is far too early for Paul Pogba and Ravel Morrison, two of the stars from last season's FA Youth Cup-winning squad, to make an impact.

"Obviously, there is a bit of work being done on that at the moment by our scouting department," said Ferguson.

"But also we are analysing the capabilities of the young players from our youth team. We will give them that opportunity."

Juventus make Tevez bid

Juventus have stepped into the race to sign Carlos Tevez and made a £45million bid for the Argentine, according to Corinthians, who have seen their own offer to buy him rejected.

Tevez has made it clear all summer that he wants to leave Manchester City due to family reasons, as his children are currently based back home in Argentina.

A move to continental Europe always seemed the only possibility for him until his former club Corinthians stepped in with an offer worth £35million at the beginning of this week.

Juventus had been looking to make a move for Sergio Aguero, the Atletico Madrid star who is now being strongly linked as the man who City are looking at to replace Tevez.

However, Juve have seemingly now shown their hand and lodged a stunning £45million offer for Tevez.

"They have a proposal for €52million (£45million) from Juventus, but Tevez does not want to stay in Europe.

Sanchez insists that Corinthians have a plan in place that will make them one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"Within three or four years, Brazilian soccer is going to be the world's richest. Just do the accounts," he said.

"The Corinthians have a recipe that no-one imagined two years ago. Corinthians will be, financially speaking, one of the world's strongest teams."

Tottenham boss believes Chelsea target will start season at Spurs

Harry Redknapp is confident Luka Modric will still be a Tottenham player come the big kick-off.

Spurs open the season at home to Everton on 13th August and boss Redknapp expects Modric to be at his disposal.

Spurs turned down an improved £27million bid for Modric from Chelsea this week, with chairman Daniel Levy determined to hang on to the Croatia playmaker, who is under contract until 2015.

And although Modric has indicated he would like to move to Stamford Bridge, Redknapp believes the 25-year-old will not cause a stir if he stays at White Hart Lane.

"I fully expect Luka to be here at the start of the season," he told The Sun.

"The chairman Daniel Levy has already said he does not want to sell him at any price.

"Luka is the nicest boy you could meet and he would not cause a problem to anybody.

"But Luka feels he has a chance of playing for a team who can win the Champions League. He's also been offered a lot of money.

"The chairman, though, wants to keep him and I want to build a side around Luka."

Villa move for N'Zogbia Replacement for departing Downing and Young lined up

Aston Villa are understood to have made a £10million bid for Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia.

Villa have already seen Ashley Young depart this summer and with Stewart Downing set to finalise a move to Liverpool Alex McLeish needs reinforcements out wide.

McLeish is a confirmed fan of the Latics star after he attempted to sign him while in charge at Birmingham.

N'Zogbia has made no secret of his desire to leave the DW Stadium this summer after two years with the club following his move from Newcastle.

It is now believed Villa have made their move and they will be hopeful of concluding a deal to secure his signature in the coming days.

That kid will probably never go to a Liverpool match again lol. But to be honest here that is a bit wrong when you look at it. The least they could have done was ask him to move, I don't necessarily condone that and would probably say that witty banter is the way to go there. The reason I don't condone it is because you know some chips and butty eating, high-strung twat across the pond is now going to do that at Anfield or OT and at that point it won't be embarrassment it will be much worse.

@Luka: He should have told the rest of the world who helped him write that letter by signing at the end With help from friend Incredible Hulk lol

Respect. If what is written towards the end of the article is true. Plus, the title doesn't really reflect the situation but then again this is Soccernet where truths go to become more than what they really are.

Downing joins Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Stewart Downing on a 'long-term contract' from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old, who has been capped 27 times by England, becomes Kenny Dalglish's fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Alexander Doni.

Villa confirmed earlier this week that Downing had submitted a formal transfer request and he travelled to Liverpool to discuss terms and complete a medical before signing.

Downing, who moved to Villa park for around £10million two years ago, had been a prime summer target of Dalglish, who saw bids of £12m and £15m rejected before an agreement for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £20m, was struck.

Downing made it clear only last month, when on England duty, that he would not sign an extension with Villa, effectively forcing them to listen to offers.

"It's a great feeling and I'm very happy to be here. It's been a long time coming and I've had to wait a few weeks, but I'm really pleased to be here," he told Liverpool's official website.

"With the tradition, the manager and the players they have here, there was a big temptation to come here and once I knew of their interest, there was only one place I wanted to go.

"It will be a great feeling to run out at Anfield. It's always nice to come and play here. The atmosphere is always great and the fans are brilliant.

"When I wanted to come to Liverpool, it was the first thing I thought of - playing at Anfield in front of those great fans. I'm really looking forward to it."

The idea of winning silverware on a regular basis also appealed to Downing, as he said: "It would be nice to win something. I'm sure that's the same objective for everyone, not just me personally.

"My aim is to be in the team, to play well and give something back because the manager has pushed the boat out to get me here, so hopefully I can give him something back.

"Getting a few goals and a few assists for the lads up front, that's what I'm hoping for."

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli said: "I am very pleased. It has been a long process and long negotiations, but we have reached an agreement with Aston Villa and the player has signed for us.

"We are delighted. It's difficult to say he was our No.1 target because all of our targets are our No.1 target.

"We did not prioritise on who we wanted to sign first, but we needed that pace and wide player that can bring us something extra, which we did not have in the squad.

"He has the right mentality, the right attitude and was absolutely committed to coming to us, so we are delighted."

Corinthians make new Tevez offer

Brazilians submit second bid for Argentine worth up to £40million

City will now consider their options, however, they are under no pressure to sell and it has been reported that owner Sheikh Mansour and chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak will not alter a valuation of £50m.

Tevez, a Corinthians player between January 2005 and August 2006, has three years left on his contract, but requested a transfer at the beginning of July with 'great regret' because he wants to move back to South America to be closer to his family.

City will reportedly attempt to activate the £40m release clause in the contract of wantaway Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero if Tevez leaves.

Villa bid for Parker

Aston Villa have made a £7million bid for West Ham star Scott Parker.

The England international is certain to leave Upton Park this summer after the club suffered relegation from the Premier League last season.

Parker, who is under contract until 2014, has been linked with a return to former club Chelsea, with West Ham admitting they may agree a loan deal.

But Villa's bid could persuade Hammers co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan that a permanent sale is the better option.

Villa will have money to spend when the £19million sale of England winger Stewart Downing is confirmed and they are understood to have bid for Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia.

New Villa boss Alex McLeish is attempting to make changes to his side and a fee has also been agreed with Manchester City for goalkeeper Shay Given.

Parker, the 2010/11 Football Writers' Association Player of the Season, is also on McLeish's wanted list and it remains to be seen how West Ham respond.

They will need to cut their wage bill after dropping into the Championship and it was reported on Thursday that they wanted Chelsea to pay £4m plus Parker's wages for a loan.

Chelsea are in need of midfield cover after Michael Essien was ruled out for up to six months following knee surgery, but boss Andre Villas-Boas may not want a permanent signing.

carlton cole's move to Stoke has broken down because the striker could not agree personal

terms.

The Potters agreed a fee for the 27-year-old earlier this week, but the Hammers revealed on Friday evening Cole would be staying put.

The exact reason as to why the deal has collapsed is not known, although West Ham released a statement which provided some reasoning.

It read: "Carlton has not asked for a transfer and has remained committed to the club at all times.

"In being given permission to talk to Stoke, the negotiations did not break down as a result of him asking for too much money. He was discussing wage parity with other key players and was well within his right to do so.

"Further, there is no issue in terms of his reported 'injury problems'. An England striker, he played 43 games last season."

The statement added: "Carlton remains part of the West Ham United first-team squad under Sam Allardyce."

Cole joined West Ham from Chelsea in July 2006 and has scored 42 goals in 165 appearances.

Blackpool agree Ferguson fee

Blackpool have agreed a fee to sign Birmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson.

The Scot has one-year left on his contract at St Andrews, but is thought to want to move north in order to be closer to his family.

Reports emerged earlier in the summer of interest from Ian Holloway's Blackpool, who like Birmingham were relegated from the Premier League last season.

And it is now understood that a fee has been agreed between the two clubs and Ferguson has been granted permission for talks.

The 33-year-old has also been linked with a move to Bolton and Sunderland, but Blackpool are looking for an influential midfielder after the sale of former captain Charlie Adam to Liverpool.

Meanwhile, David Vaughan has admitted there was never a dull moment working for Holloway after the midfielder completed his move Steve Bruce's Sunderland earlier in the week.

He said: "I don't think anyone can compare to Olly, to be honest.

Brazilian defender Jonathan joins Inter

Inter Milan have completed the signing of Brazilian defender Jonathan from Santos.

The 25-year-old had been training with Inter this week ahead of a proposed permanent switch to Italy.

And the Serie A giants have now confirmed the right-back has signed a four-year contract, with the Nerazzurri paying an undisclosed fee to secure his services.

"Jonathan has signed a contract with Inter until June 30, 2015," the club announced.

After signing from Cruzeiro in December, Jonathan helped Santos win this year's Copa Libertadores.
