Anshul
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes referee Cuneyt Cakir "made the right call" when he sent off Nani in Tuesday night's Champions League battle with Real Madrid at Old Trafford. GettyImagesNani walks away from the Old Trafford pitch after being shown a red card Irate United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was seething with rage as the last-16 tie was transformed by the contentious decision of the Turkish official to dismiss Nani for his high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa in the 56th minute at a moment when the home side were in the ascendancy, but Keane had little sympathy for the banished Portuguese winger. "The referee has made the right call," Keane told ITV Sport. "It's dangerous play, it's a red card. He knows there are other footballers on the pitch and to be fair to the referee, he took a few minutes, spoke to his assistant and decided it was a red card. "I don't think the referee made the decision because he waited a couple of minutes while one of the players was getting treatment and I think it was the assistant that made the call. Whatever people are getting upset about it, but I think he made the right call. "Any time I got sent off in my career, I always thought did I give the referee a chance to send me off? If the answer is yes, then it is out of your hands. Everyone is upset about it and United are slightly unlucky to go out, but it's dangerous play. Whether he meant it or not is irrelevant. It was dangerous play, red card. "Whether the referee was brave or not, it was the right decision. Let's not forget that Nani is quick to go down, he is not always the bravest boy." Keane went on to praise Real Madrid match winner Cristiano Ronaldo as "an £80 million snip" as he marked his return to Old Trafford with the goal that secured his team a place in the Champions League quarter-finals. "It looked like a lot of money when Real Madrid paid £80 million for Ronaldo, but he looks like a snip now," Keane added. "What a fantastic player. He didn't have his best game against United, but he was fantastic."
Stevie G
The red card should not cloud the fact that United did not defend well after that .Chelsea last season were excellent when the same ref sent off Terry . I think Evra is a liability and should be replaced by Baines

Finally someone sensible in this thread. United lost it after the red card. That shouldnt have happened, especially when they were winning. If you can't adapt to sudden unforseen changes, u can't say u deserved to win.
supersim
Dafaq it s the same ref who sent off JT. Didn't know that  Anyhow united crumbled after the red , letting in quick fire goals . they could have defended better . the likes of Inter , Chelsea, etc have survived and put on champion displays on similar a scenario with more minutes left in the game that too on away matches.  Almost like united gave up when the red card was given .  They started reacting pretty late after they let in the 2 goals but couldn't put the ball in the net , with so many chances falling to their players but finishing was poor by united throughout the game . just like in Santiago bernabeu. They could have finished real with the number of chances they had.

Keano
I think united played brilliantly yesterday. Not the greatest football, but everyone had a job and they did it really well. The red card, deserved or not, messed up our game and we couldn't recover. Mourinho and Ronaldo showed tremendous respect – good on them. United never plays with 10 men behind the ball, the first thing that came up my mind when Nani saw red was Inter and Chelsea doing it with 10. But those teams are well known for their defensive capabilities, where in even the strikers join the backline and put their bodies on the line and also rode some luck at the same time.  Not to take anything away from madrid they played a great game against 10 men but against 11, not a chance, I was never so confident watching united play up until the send off. "In the last 2 years referee Cuneyt Cakin has sent off Balotelli (MC), Terry (Che), Gerrard (Eng), Cahill (Che). And now Nani (MU)" Edited March 6, 2013 by Keano

Keano
Dafuq   Y do u want Barca to go through?u want them to beat madrid  Bayern and Barca are the only teams who can beat Madrid. Maybe BvB, Juve and Milan can do it, but with Platini having a hard on for Madrid this year - dont see it happening.

I'd ideally prefer barca getting knocked out by Milan and Madrid getting knocked out in the next round..don't think the latter will happen though
