Paulinho & Lamela are the only decent signings they have made till now which I would want at Arsenal. Rest of them nothing special.

They have 6 points on the table, so well done to them but I saw their matches & in no way did they deserve to win both of those matches. Situation might improve once their new signings settle in(performance wise), but I'm still confident they are not as good as media + their own fans will make them out to be.

There was so much hype around Holtby too last season just like there is now for Eriksen.. Their fans thought they have made a coup but look where he is right now playing in their reserves & Spurs looking for his replacements in Eriksen.

Are Arsenal fans seriously whining about that group? Toughest of the UK clubs, but look at some of those other groups!

Always been fond of Arsenal, but I really hope they don't make it through the group stage this time. They have no business being a Pot 1 club.

Care to elaborate why?

Consistency of results over a long period of time is one the toughest things to achieve in sports & CL quite rightly promotes that in the way they choose which team should be in which Pot. So I don't see why we shouldn't we be in Pot 1.

We are right now not as good as we used to be & have certainly declined in the last few years but we are still a very formidable opponent. Though I can say that calling us 'Worst of the best' won't be a wrong statement but we definitely 'deserve' to be in Pot 1. Especially if teams like Porto & Benfica are also there.

Most of the teams who have done well in CL or won it the last past 5 years are there in Pot 1. It's not as if we are replacing one of these guys. Which team do you think should replace us in top 8 from among the Pot2/3/4 teams?

Do you prefer teams who have just done well in one season to be considered better than teams who have consistently been there?(Like Dortmund last season)

Porto - Winner in last five years

Porto last won it in 2004 under Mourinho if I am not wrong?

Benfica: Europa League finalist in last five years.

Europa league is not champions league, so why should performing well there make you more deserving to be top seeded in CL?

At most the only team which should be higher ranked than it is right now is Dortmund. They don't deserve to be in Pot 4 but even then I don't think they are Pot 1 candidates yet. Hence I can't see who should replace us or is more 'deserving' than us to be in pot 1 out of lower pots. Considering that before us Porto & benfica should get replaced too.

least difficult away game to start off..home game..bvb at home and away(squeeze out some points)..home game at marseille to get back on track if things go wrong against bvb and finally a game against napoli which could very well be a knock out match.

atleast schedule has been good.

The problem is ranking is only based on UCL and Europa performance and does not consider domestic performance. If qualification for UCL/Europa is based on domestic results, why shouldn't the rankings?

Europa league performance matters because it contributes towards UEFA ranking. Chelsea were knocked out of UCL in group stages last year, still earned more points than Real (UCL semis) because they won Europa.

My point is Arsenal has been clinging onto pot 1 because of this ridiculous points system not because it belongs there.

Doesn't it consider domestic performance indirectly because top ranked teams in a league qualify for the CL & then Europa & if you are consistently in the top 3-4 of your league, the better will be your European coefficients? In what other way do you think they should incorporate domestic performance? Should there be weighted coefficients for positions inside the league? But I think it will be quite difficult to decide on the weights which would also consider the relative toughness of different leagues. Finishing 3rd in PL not the same as finishing 3rd in French league.

But anyways no matter how you look at it, Arsenal deserves to atleast be in top 8 of the CL mainly because of the consistency it has shown & I do agree with many of the points raised in that article like Chelsea getting more points than Real for winning Europa is wrong but I do think that the ranking system gets more it more right than wrong.

I can't see any other team outside Pot 1 in this season's CL who should have been there in place of Arsenal no matter which way you look at it & you still haven't given a name which should take our place even if you go with your criteria of deciding the Top 8, whatever that criteria might be.
