gooner4life
Then you probably don't know what scummy underhand tactics these agents employ many times without the consent of their players or without them knowing anything in the first place. Don't forget agents get a pretty hefty sum too whenever these deals happen and the hidden costs that are associated with it (clauses, VAT etc etc) so they try every scheme at hand to get that nice payday. Maybe Toure would've wanted a raise but I doubt & wouldn't be surprised if he knows nothing about this "disappointment" https://twitter.com/Toure_yaya42/status/468752594631143424 You are mistaken if you think all the power does no rests with the player in such cases. I have never heard of a player where he gets sold to another club without his consent or when agents cause trouble on a player's behalf without player knowing it. But ofcourse agents get huge monetary benefit from all this but so does the player from a move or a contract extension. It's a 'you rub my back, I rub yours' kind of thing between players & agents. But yes in many cases, some outside agent(who is not officially associated with the player) do approach them to try and arrange a move, but even then everything happens with the player's consent. If the move doesn't happen, player absolves himself of any blame, if it happens then both agent & player get benefited from it.
LeonardoInventions
Ooh I didn't saw that tweet. Fair enough I stand corrected then, maybe Toure is a mercenary after all. I was not talking about moving clubs thingy though as that rests entirely on a player shoulders, but even then there are some agents who constantly remain in touch of other clubs looking for a deal to gather moolah for themselves and trying to turn the players' head afterwards, even though the said player is happy at the club in the first place. Most footballers are naive to fell time & again for that. It goes on all the time with payrise too, with agents convincing the player to ask for it. Keano
looks like he deleted few tweets off his timeline .. I remember reading this earlier today. Not defending Yaya, but it shows how poisonous football agents are. Edited May 20, 2014 by Keano

It's naive to think that players cause trouble just because agents somehow brainwash them to do so. Some players remain loyal for their whole careers & create no trouble at all, do you think it's because no agent approaches them with better offers? And how exactly do these agents brainwash players? "If we look for a move, we maybe able to double your wages, yaya(or any other player)", (player gets 'brainwashed')"Ok, let's look for a move out of the club!". Sorry but that's not naivety, that's greed & no player moves if it somehow doesn't benefit him financially otherwise agents would actually brainwash these players to move to a club & get a lower wage, while increasing their share of the pie. That's what a brainwashing would look like. Agents are an excuse. All the power is with the player in today's footballing climate.
LeonardoInventions
Then you truly don't know or seen how influential those leeches can be. Of course some players remain loyal, exceptions are always there. Err and I don't think what you described there is how it works in contract negotiations. sensevil
I dont agree with gooner4life.. If all power is in the hands of player then agents wont get a hefty amount in transfers and contract extension. They play a major role in players decision. For further clarification watch the Tom Cruise movie "Jerry Maguire"
gooner4life
@leonardoinventions - Then please do explain how do these contract negotiations work? @sensevil - Well power is with the players to make the final decision but agents help a lot in facilitating the move. Players can't handle the legality of the contracts themselves, agents do so & also they handle a lot of other things related to the move I suppose so that's why they get paid handsomely. Give me one example where you think player got brainwashed for a move & it didn't somehow benefit the player but the agent only.
LeonardoInventions
otherwise agents would actually brainwash these players to move to a club & get a lower wage, while increasing their share of the pie That, it doesn't work like that. Agent gets a share of the wages that is in the player contract (in %) decided to be payed annually/monthly/weekly between the agent & the player, so what purpose it would serve to arrange a lower fee for the player?? They also get a separate amount whenever their client changes clubs, which is a negotiable percent of the transfer fee. Not to mention VAT on top of that. Its why some of these agents are always pushing & manipulating players to ask for a raise or to turn their heads to look for new clubs. Players benefit yes, but if the players only remain on a particular wage packet or with a single club then these folks stand less chance to gain more money. That is the point in question. Some agents are good but most (like Kia whatever his name was) are absolute scum. LeonardoInventions
Van gaal plays attacking football right? Yes, he prefers an attacking and highly fluid style of play in which he expects players to work very hard both on and off the ball. One thing which has always been the strongest point of his teams everywhere is a strong midfield. So you can pretty much take for granted that he'll tell your current crop of midfield players, Cleverly, Fellaini and maybe even Carrick to go do one (yes literally). I don't suppose Fellaini would be able to get even a single game under him. Its something which he might value even more than defence because your current midfield does not suit his style at all. LeonardoInventions
So kroos doesn't fit his style? He needs box to box with brains? Like marchisio/Vidal/Strootman? Yeah those who are technical and good on the ball. Strootman will be a cert as he is a fan of him and maybe (heaven forbid) ilkay Gundogan. Kroos would be good, slightly ahead of the usual CM slot imo, hope he refuses them though Vidal is a pipe dream for anyone in europe at the moment. Yes even the madrids and the barcas of this world.
