If they try to impose the 700m release clause, it'll be huge PR nightmare, not to mention Messi will just leave for free in a year. If they let him go for free right away, the current board and Bartomeu in particular will face huge backlash for screwing up so bad that their talisman left. Only viable option is to sell him for 100-150m and give him a statue for his 20 years. But no matter what the outcome, Bartomeu is gonna get whooped. Reports say Barca want at least 222m for Messi. City and PSG can easily afford that and his weekly wages. Messi can argue season ended only in August and the June 10 expiration date on the clause should be reconsidered due to Covid. They could argue in court and it'll only turn ugly for Barca. He will be sold (if at all) for 100-300m or Messi can just chill out for another year and leave for free. City and PSG have unlimited budget, so one of them will get him.
