Praful Patel (?) was still saying that this is wayyyyy too less as this will be put in domestic leagues and a lot of other places so they will need more sponsors

Maybe he has more expenses than it?? Another Suresh Kalmadi in the making? :scratchchin:

But still, Sunil Chhetri could not play for QPR as you cant get a work permit in UK for football if your national team's rank is more than 70... I dont think we might see promising Indian talent in the UK anytime soon

Not really, if the Indian talent comes out and plays for the Indian team and help us through the ranks, it's their gain in both departments isn't it?

I had a friend of a friend who was selected for Stuttgart B on the basis of his trial while he was rejected even for a trial in the UK (not sure which team) because he didn't play for a recognized club.

Im pretty sure 70 is such a huuuuuge jump in rankings for a team like India which for some reason does not seem to perform to its potential.. And yes, it does mean football will develop, but I definitely dont think the current crop of players will see themselves in Premier league uniforms.. Not being a party pooper, just an honest and a realistic opinion :)

They won't , but the Premier League isn't the end of the world. I would rather prefer to see them in Asian Leagues or if the development goes right, I'd watch the domestic league more regularly too.

If they can make the stadiums half decent and get in some good coverage, I swear I'll watch more domestic matches than premier league ones..

Im saying this because I had been to this Santosh trophy game before in Chennai, and it was a riot. No proper ticketing system, horrible crowd, and moreover, a riot broke out because of a blatant mistake by the referee in the closing moments of the game.. By the time I made it out of the stand, the stand looked like it was halfway through a demolition

Add facilities + media coverage + security :coolspeak:

And that just made me wonder, is 700cr enough for all that? I really don't think so

Training facilites, youth system development, better awareness of local clubs and much better coverage of local games by sports channels as well. 700 Cr will touch the tip of that iceberg and even if it does manage to touch that then companies will have to step in and sponsor teams and push them out with marketting. Then, we will start to see progress. I could care less if we go to the Prem, so many other leagues around the world and if we break into a league in Africa, I would consider that an achievement.

This is not the premier league, there is no bloody point in spending the money on the youth systems or development of managers and youth for the game in India. If your trying to popularise something, spend the money on the obvious things. Stadiums and pitches and advertising and developing something like the IPL to create a demand. Get teams from abroad to play some matches and arrange false tournaments under the pretence of them being massive.

This will start generating revenue for the AIFF, which can then be invested in youth and training programmes. The infrastructure and youth system in India is solid, its more than good enough to suffice a proper league. Quality is not yet there, but that only comes when there is a motivation for the sport. Motivation means money, money means you need audiences, audiences means you need media, media means you put that money where it should be.

lol I wonder how mush of that 700 cr figure will be used wisely :giggle:

One world class training centre per major city will do wonders for our young players.

Even with a world class training center you need to attract world class managers and trainers to get things rolling in the first few years while the older players learn the trait and then start coaching the next-gen. I think this is possible if they took their minds of focusing on one sport and distributed it evenly over others. Just look at the rubbish that is going on in Indian Hockey right now - Fire the coach, start blaming the fact that they let a foreigner in, didn't pay him enough, didn't give him enough support and then chuck him out, make him a scapegoat and rue the last few years when they were hatching eggs and letting the team go out and do its job. If any self-respecting manager of any sport saw this and saw the amount of rubbish that coaches in other sports are going through with our existing sports system I think they'd turn a blind-eye unless the money was really good.

I think its an overall project. You can't focus on one aspect of it all and say oh now we have the money so things will roll. Its segmented and needs to be done in stages taking everything involved into account. You have to bring in fans, upgrade your facilities, build your teams, create continued revenue generation, entice investors, create relations with other clubs in asia and bring them over. Get the ball rolling for the national team strategy to create a presence and its not going to happen overnight with an injection of 700Cr.
