Joy
LOL,except for Maicon & Lucio, all players are from Barcelona or Real Madrid. It more looks like a La Liga XI than a World XI. +1.
Nemo
Sneijder definitely does not deserve to win the Ballon d'or. Have you seen how poor he has been this entire season? The guy has struggled with his movement and pace and has contributed absolutely nothing to the team. He is yet to score a goal in the Serie A and it's already half the season gone and has been credited with just 1 assist. I felt Messi deserves this as he has been consistent throughout the year but Iniesta was a more deserving candidate because he had performed well in the World Cup as well. The FIFA Ballon d'Or is an association football award given annually to the player considered to have performed the best over the previous calendar year since 2010. what was the previous calender year ? 2009-10 season. /argument
Man In The Box
Dude, the FIFA Player of the Year for 2010 includes the performance of a player throughout the calender year; including the period between July 2010 - December 2010. Have you even seen Sneijder's performance in the last 6 months ? Edited January 11, 2011 by Avishkar
Nemo
^^ then why were the 10 finalists revealed in october 2010 ? by your logic should not november and december 2010 be counted ? Edited January 11, 2011 by Nemo
Man In The Box
Lol, we both are replying twice ... once here and once on FB . Anyway i'll just copy paste what I wrote on FB ... Even if they are naming finalists from October, that still gives us 3 months of the new season and Sneijder has been really poor.Compare his performance with that of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta who have been playing amazing football throughout the calender year and you will realise that he definitely falls short. Nemo
first of all those 3 months are not to be taken into account. It never happens in any such award. its always for the full season. even if they are, are you saying that just based on the 3 months, we can over look what all Weasly achieved during the 09-10 season ? Sire A, domestic cup, UEFA CL, world cup runners up.. ?? Messi was crap at the WC and at uefa CL semifinal.
Mel81x
yeah id have to take nemo's side on this one. What did Messi really win last year and if he was so inspiring then his WC and UCL campaigns are just a few of the places where they truly did fail. On the other hand WS did the unthinkable with Inter and imo he should have gotten it and not anyone from Barcelona with the exception of the spaniards. I would have probably agreed if one of them had won it but not Messi. Even if Wesley is suffering this year that doesn't take even a fraction off from what he accomplished in the previous season and at the WC. P.S. Mel81x
messi deserved it.. he scored what 60 goals or something... that is phenomenal! yes and scoring goals is what makes u a ballon d'or winner ... so the fact that a person was instrumental in bringing a team back into top flight football and winning the league, the UCL and helping his country reach the finals of a WC probably pales in comparison right? I wonder when they are going to get over this whole goal scoring deal and actually pick players for solid contributions as an overall component. Sure goals will get you far but if your not winning alot as a result you could score goals in your local league and still be nowhere. Truly baffles the mind. P.S. I think Messi is spectacular but I think they got the name of the winner wrong this time.
KWC
goals win you games. its not like messi just scores.. he assists, his passing is brilliant and he galvanizes the entire team. how many did sneijder score and assist by the way? Mel81x
i think around 10 in goals not sure about assists and then of course the 5 he scored at the WC and I don't know the UCL goals off the top of my head. Still though I'll stand by my opinion because I see it like this. Take out WS from Inter and see how far they'll go and then take out Messi from Barca and see how far they'll go. imo as an attacking tactical unit Barca trumps inter and probably most other football teams by an ocean's length and add to that, they have two midfield maestros to pick up the slack as well. Remove WS from Inter and where's your distribution or tactical prowess to push the ball forward coming from? Sure you've got Milito poaching up front and uve got a defensive line that might be capable to shut down other teams from entering or getting near the box to score goals effortlessly but then you put a guy that can make the magic happen in the center and you get what happened last year. Also, when it comes to passing I think Iniesta may even [and ill bite when my tongue when I say this] be better and more aware than Messi. Put him and Xavi as your midfield unit and the balls will be touching the feet of players even when you think you've got everyone covered. But as it stands, the award did go to Messi and im not taking anything away from him because he does entertain and he does pass unselfishly but when you look at all the people on the list, you have to ask yourself whether the goal-scoring overshadowed the importance of having a solid player versus having someone netting goals and making passes.
Man In The Box
I'm not sure if Messi deserved the award or Iniesta but it definitely wasnt Sneijer. Messi was very consistent and his passing and shooting has been just class. While Sneijder had a great season, he hasn't been able to sustain his form wheras Messi is performing well day in and day out. Goal scoring is definitely not the only thing in football and that is why players like Xavi have been recognized and were placed higher in the ranking than Sneijder. Last year Inter were on fire and Sneijder was playing great but yeah, that doesnt change the poor form he is having since the last few months. As for the WC thing, well I agree Messi did not have a good tournament but his level of consistency is much better than that of Sneijder for the year 2010. 'Pranay
I think Xavi should had won this imo. But well Messi deserved it as well. He was brilliant in the league and was great in ucl as well barring the inter match. In the World Cup he was Good mainly got f**ked up thanks to Maradonna tactics. As far as snider is concerned HE was very average in the league. ! Had A good UCL campaign but milito , cambiasso and maicon were much better then snieder. Even with Xavi and iniesta with all their brilliance struggled in world cup imo. The whole spain team was average. Even Class Striker like Villa and Torres They Strugled to score goals , dominate the midfield and also got lucky in few matches. Barcelona without messi will struggle more then inter without snieder. Their were many matches where Messi single handedly won matches for Barca. Snieder was ok in the world cup, robben was the better then him. Even though snieder had a great match against brazil, his performace was pretty much average So yeah im pretty happy with the awards. Those interested in who voted for whom can see this http://www.as.com/misc/pdf/futbol/balondeoro2010.pdf
