vinitwins
you are faced with 2 choices and need to make a decision based on your preference/needs (which is subjective): 1. 60gb ntsc-j console: grey market price 21k, no warranty, plays ps3 games (they are region free), ps2 games (only from same region), BR movies from zone 1 (same as US), DVD movies from region 3. comes with AV cable, and 1 DS2 controller (no rumble) - you will need to purchase HDMI cable and a DS3 controller (if you want rumble) OR 2. 40gb indian console: retail price 25k, 1yr warranty, plays ps3 games (they are region free), NO PS2 SUPPORT, BR movies from zone 3 (this is a BIG PROBLEM), DVD movies from region 5. comes with AV cable, and 1 DS2 controller (no rumble) - you will need to purchase HDMI cable and a DS3 controller (if you want rumble). also 40gb models consume less power (ps3s dont overheat), but there have been reports of BR drive failures owing to poor quality parts (the problem is not widespread but you should be aware of that without warranty if your drive craps out on you, you will need to get someone to help you install a new drive) V

vinitwins
if you don't hav ps2 gamz n don't wanna play them , then definitely go for the 40 GB legit ALSO depends on whether he wants to use the ps3 as a br player or not: basically you need to ask yourself: 1. will i purchase/rent BR movies to watch on my LCD/HD TV? if yes, then you cannot purchase the indian console (BR Zone 3). 2. will i play ps2 games on my ps3? if yes, then you need to choose between the 60gb or 80gb models 3. is warranty important? if yes, then you cannot purchase from the grey market. bottomline: if you have family staying in HK/Singapore, then ask them to get one (40gb if you dont wanna play ps2 games) for you with bill & warranty - that way you get the best of everything - price, peace of mind and compatibility for BR movies V

Chaztin
Alright, basically I dont care much about BR movies, bt yes wld like to owe ps3 having most of the titles avialble in its region. warranty is imp if noone can repair it locally for cheap price. If all PS3 probs are repairable locally, I wld take PS3 frm grey market. I wont play PS2 games in 95 % chances, if sm extra ordinary game comes, then I might!! Thanks for the Help Guys, my eyes are more on 60 gb Grey market one as of now!!

Hot-Drake-Pixel
i dont have anyone living in HK/Singapore, bt yes if theres sm link to sm website for that particular area offering good price I wld go for it..!! I could arrange for a PS3 from Singapore. But it would have been easier if you were in Bangalore. I think 40 gb PS3 best suit your need. And for the price consideration and wider BLU availability it is advisable to get it from outside. The irony of buying legit console from indian market is, you pay extra for warranty cover yet there has hardly been any incident of BD failure on PAL region units. When I last checked with sony service centre around nov end there was not even a single PS3 reported back for hardware problem all across india. Similarly there has been no incident reported for the 40 gb model's yet.

lastAvenger
The advantage with switching over from 90nm to 65nm is that the heat would be reduced. Ofcourse there will be no effect on the console or gaming but i think i will be definitely getting a 40 gig.

I bought a PAL 60 gb PS3 (legit) last month and its drive crashed a couple of days ago. Even though I've given it at the service centre, I dont have much hope from the idiots at Sony India. Just a couple of hours ago, I got a call from them saying they'd replace my 60gb with a 40gb one (after having kept my PS3 for a good 7 days now). Third time I've shouted at them since the whole fiasco began. I would say buy a legit Xbox 360. Atleast they offer pick up and drop of the unit and the India staff is knowledgeable of the issues faced. Sony India =

L33TWiZaRd
Get the 60 gb from the gray market for under 20k. The games are region free. And if u get the Japanese region all the pirated dvd movies will work

MarketTantrik
I would recommend that you hold your horses and wait for this whole drive failure mess to get sorted out. You can even be rewarded for your patience if you buy the rumoured MGS 4 edition PS3.
