Hot-Drake-Pixel
Once again, if I were to buy PS3 again I would go for 40 gb NTSC/U.
ayush12ice
Yes it is. 60GB PAL consoles have b/c via emulation. that means it's b/c is same as the 80 GB one , so why don't ppl wanna buy the 80GB instead of a 60GB when the price diff is negligible. Chaztin
80 GB has got it thru Hardware and that doesnt seem to be reliable to many ppl, more over its not available in Indian markets as of yet. Plus why to spend on HDD when u can addon it later...
Imrahn
I think its the other way around.........60 gig PS3 comes with HW emu while 80 gig is software.Hardware emu is preferred over software and thats why 60 gig is in preference.Sony decided to drop the feature coz in the surveys they conducted, most PS3 owners had PS2 and was preferring price cut to playing PS2 games. MarketTantrik
^^ False again. The 60GB NTSC models had both the Emotion Engine and the Graphics Synthesizer from the PS2. The 80GB models only have the EE and not the GS (or the other way round). So B/C is achieved through partial software emulation. The 60GB PAL models (the ones available in India) are similar to the 80GB NTSC models. So for full backward compatibility, you will want a 60GB NTSC model. MarketTantrik
Software B/C success rate is 80% of the hardware B/C.
arnold991
Hi Guys, I am new to this lovely forum. I had many questions but after reading many threads, some confustions are definitely sorted out. Please tell me, from Sony India PAL/NTSC which format PS3 is available ? And am I right that it doesn't matter which Format PS3 you buy, every game will work irrespective of it ?
Chaztin
Welcome to GI m8, Sony India will provide you with 40 GB / 60 GB PS3 that wld be in PAL format. Yes you are right that " All games " for PS3 are Region Free and will work on any format PS3. But difference comes if PS3 matter to you much as a Blu-Ray player also. Coz Sony India will provide u with a Region C console and there are very few titles in Region C Blu-Ray library. But many out coming movies are trying to provide Region Free Blu-Rays. If Blu-Ray movie feature doesnt matter to you, its advisable to purchase a billed Sony India PS3. If it does you should purchase a PS3 with NTSC U/J format from Grey market ( 40/60/80 GB ) which ever you like, as PS3 is a High quality Next Generation console and isnt as problamatic as Xbox, yet its a machine so no guarantee when it pees n ruins ur shirt. MarketTantrik
as PS3 is a High quality Next Generation console and isnt as problamatic as Xbox, yet its a machine so no guarantee when it pees n ruins ur shirt. Chaztin FTW !!! But it would be ill-advised to say that the PS3 has no problems. One recent development on this front has been the Spin-of-Death where the PS3's blu-ray drive stops functioning due to some inherent defect. When this occurs, the machine is incapable of reading games and movies and can only function from its hard disk. In such a situation you can get it replaced from a Sony authorized service centre ONLY IF YOU BUY AN ORIGINAL CONSOLE FROM INDIA, which means a PAL console with the bill generated in India. If you pick up a NTSC console from abroad, you will have to carry it in to a SOny service centre in the country of purchase to get it replaced. Sony India DOES NOT provide warranty coverage for out-of-region consoles, even if you offer to pay for them. In such cases you r option would be to get it repaired from one of the numerous grey market repair centres operating in some cities across the country.
