BioWare Fans Should 'Pay Attention' To VGAs, Says EA

Recommended Posts

I dont think thats ME3, post the teaser. As the VO says, "From the makers of ME and DA, a new game..."

Doesnt look like ME at all.

Which is a good thing.

A completely new game franchise from one of the better studios around, is always good news.

They said new game, not new IP. It's stupid to think its not a Mass Effect game just because they mention Mass Effect in the intro. Plus, judging from those two pics up there, the weapon looks mighty like the Incisor.

I'm guessing that guy might be one of the new characters that you have to recruit.

It will be a a new IP if Bioware is dumb enough to use the same sci-fi gun in 2 different franchises.

Most people seem to think that this is a prequel where you get to play through the first contact war between humans and the turians. That would make sense considering the Armor looks like old tech.

There are also a couple of barcodes Bioware have thrown out. Something to do with Iron and Cold. No idea what that means.

Call of Mass effects duty?

The BioWare project teased earlier today by Spike TV's Video Game Awards is not an early look at Mass Effect 3, according to a development source, but the multiplayer-focused Mass Effect spin-off currently in the works at BioWare Montreal.

That Mass Effect game is not a massively multiplayer online version of BioWare's sci-fi RPG series, but a game that's designed to appeal more to the Call of Duty market, according to that source. We're told to expect player progression in the vein of Activision's wildly popular online shooter along with some sort of single-player component that does not feature Mass Effect's Commander Shepard in a leading role.

None of that should really be too surprising, given hints BioWare and EA have dropped in the past.

BioWare Montreal, which has aided in Mass Effect 2 development, was seeking multiplayer programmers earlier this year to "take existing single player user experiences and make them multiplayer safe." BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk has also said that there will be more games set in the Mass Effect universe outside of the series' main trilogy.

EA's John Schappert has promised "something far-reaching coming from Mass Effect" in the new year, something a December-timed reveal could drum up new enthusiasm for. Schappert could have simply been referring to the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2, however, which is due in January 2011.

Finally, former Raven Software (Quake 4, Wolfenstein) lead designer Manveer Heir moved to BioWare Montreal this summer to work on Mass Effect, giving the developer some well-known multiplayer shooter talent.

We've reached out to EA to seek comment on the details provided by our source and will update if they respond.

This is a weird thing to say (esp cause I hated the dumbing down of ME 2) but I think this could be good. Esp if its class based.

Plus maybe they can get the shooty bits out of their system with this and make ME3 an RPG again.

i don't know why they're trying to be cryptic and painfully dragging this along. we've known for a year now that mass effect 3 is coming. do they expect anyone to go "oh my god i never saw that coming" when they finally do announce me3?
