vbhoj74
So here it goes, my son was playing GT5 and the UPS system went into overload and switched off everything yesterday. Today when he tried to play GT5, the game hung on the track loading screen everytime, so again had to hard boot the system. Tried deleting GT5 game files, and the system hung again endlessly, so had to power cycle it again, but this time it booted to HDD corrupt screen and tries to restore the system. Now it boots into this screen everytime. Any suggestions on how to salvage the situation ?
Jigsaw
Sorry to hear that vineet I guess you could try to download the firmware onto a pen drive and boot the ps3 with the pen drive inserted. I got a somewhat similar error when I swapped out my ps3 hdd with a newer bigger one. There are many articles on the internet on the path that should be created on the pen drive for the firmware... Lemme look that up for you. Although with no backup the existing data on the hdd is most likely nuked.

Jigsaw
vineet.. try this, when u download the latest firmware it should be in a .pup extension. Create the following path on your pen drive PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP .. remember to format the pen drive on your pc first in fat32. Boot the ps3 with the pen drive inserted and let it format the internal hdd. Should do the trick... did it for me !

Yep, returns to the same screen after it finishes & reboots itself. vineet.. try this, when u download the latest firmware it should be in a .pup extension. Create the following path on your pen drive PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP .. remember to format the pen drive on your pc first in fat32. Boot the ps3 with the pen drive inserted and let it format the internal hdd. Should do the trick... did it for me ! I think that process is for a new HDD, because when my system boots it f**king gave me the same HDD system corrupt screen and it goes into trying to restore. I followed the below suggestion, but the segate utility somehow does not test the HDD, says failed on the test, so I guess it was not possible to salvage the situation and upgraded with new HDD, I'm online now, but all data, games, saves, everything lost. I just went through this problem of "corrupt file...HDD" and repeated tries with Restore. After some research on the Web I finally solved this issue. Cause #1: PS3 powered off during 'write to disk' stage of game startup, which is easy to do if the factory default "Auto Start Game" setting is still on in System Settings (turn this setting off). Solution: Sony uses Seagate notebook drives for PS3's. You will need to remove the drive and connect it to your PC (go to the link on Cause #2's solution for instructions). Because the PS3 drive format is not recognized by Windows it might not show up as an accessible drive. You will then need to go to: Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management and assign the PS3 HDD a drive letter - but skip or cancel when asked to format or partition this drive. Now go to: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/ and download SeaTools. This program will diagnose and repair the problem on the PS3 HDD. Next, just re-install the drive into the PS3, and remember to turn off the "Auto Start Game" option! Cause #2: Physical HDD failure. Solution: Contact store/Sony if still under warranty. If not, just replace your PS3 HDD with a 2.5" SATA notebook drive. vbhoj74
I'm taking this crash as an opportunity to give my Indian ID a try once again ! I formatted the PS3 HDD on a PC, and it seems fine. , would have liked it if it were really a toast.
