@ty - I know :P but we are not gonna let this one go easily :P

On a serious note, its not like dmc. I think if you were a fan of TR you would hate it too. Its in the league of SCC, a genre-change category. Even I who ditched it the whole time expected easy noobified puzzles but they are literally non existent throughout the main game. I know games are not like previous days and we have nostalgia and all but you need to understand that there bad things/products in life too. This is one of them. A bad, possibly worst reboot ever. Also, just to be clear I love rip-off of a new ip if it is taken from.a good game.

Ok this is my last time :P Sales were good so I am worried.

I think they will definitely go for an old TR style game for the next game. That's not to say it will not feature Uncharted like setpieces but it will surely have some proper "tomb raiding". The story in this one wasn't exactly tailored for old fashioned tomb raiding. It was an origin story. Lara was more concerned with saving her friends and staying alive (though the gameplay doesn't exactly do a great job of conveying that). Now that she's the Lara Croft we know the sequel should have a different style. I just hope there's less killing and more exploring.

Yeah, I hope. Combat was never focus in any TR game but then I never mind it. Imagine TR4 like exploring and puzzles with UC type combat @razpor - nothing personal man

Talking of survivor gameplay, have you played 'I am alive'? now that was a real surviving game and fun too with some problems of course.

Ah...., kind of answer I was expecting. I can perfectly understand why you liked it. Trust me when I say I understand I mean it.

Yeah maybe i can better understand your perspective after playing older TR games, but i doubt it ll change my opinion drastically.

I disagree.

Not that I think that CD are above sacrificing game-play choices for narrative coherence but the reason the game is so......utterly bland and identity-less is because they wanted to appeal to as big an audience as possible. They had to, the fact that they shipped like 3.5 million copies and still needed more to be profitable is a clear indicator of that. When you are playing with that kind of money you dont go around making a game that can have puzzles and platforming and difficulty and exploration. You cant afford to. You have to mass market the crap out of it. Check every box you can find.

I mean I despise the direction they took with it. But I totally understand it.

Fair point but I still think CD has the chops to deliver something that can appeal to fans as well as the mainstream crowd.

The kitchen sink mentality needs to die.

Oh absolutely. CD have a ridiculous amount of talent. TRU was one of the most underrated games of this gen. GoL was absolutely sublime. TRA is one of the best (if not THE best) "remake" of all time.

Which is why when they make something like this its even worse. They are soooooooooo much better than this dull generic shootbang 20xx.

This thread is stuck in an infinite loop of:

- I love this game, can't see why people are complaining

- Dude do you have any idea what TR is about? This isn't TR! Blasphemy!

- They ripped off Uncharted!

- It's possible to get nude Lara!

- Repeat

@ps, Just put a "deal with it" GIF in the OT.

+1  Also add "Cry Moar" gif for Dante77 :P

There are people here who have very close mind when it comes to gaming.....Game Devs need to be given space for creativity's sake. Games Like New DMC and TR were not just for appealing to new audience but it was high time something fresh had to be inserted in these games.

Both these games seem to be great in so many ways also. But for most it would hurt their ego if they accept it.

Story wise it all makes sense that even exploring and tombs and puzzing and all were kept to minimal and bit easy because Lara in this game is still green..and above all most important thing for her to do in that island was survive and safe friends.

There is a reason also for the other survivors to be armed and places to be fortified

Having said all that there is definitely the Uncharted thing in the game. There was bit too much explosion quite scripted setpieces...which i also did not like and really hope they cut down. Beside the replay value of the game is also not there.

But everything else aside...I think New Lara is simply great...and i also like the game did not shy to have (spoiler)-

supernatural stuff

.

The sequel i am sure will take us back to Old TR games...this was just about all about Lara Croft becoming The Lara Croft from day one.

And they are the same guys who made those awesome PSone TR games. Apart from Legend all TR games were good.

Tomb Raider , till AoD was done by Core Design. Crystal Dynamics took over the franchise since Legend , after an alleged ( yet conspirative ) f**kup by Eidos during the development phase of AoD recieving some really harsh words all around be it the game itself or it's unpolished nature. Core blamed Eidos and the time given for Chronicles for Eidos to respond in similar fashion , going in circles. Most of'em left Eidos or were forced to is still unknown and speculated in the public forum even now. Legend was recieved very well amongst the press, went on to sell like hot cakes , crossing 5 million copies. The irony being Anniversary and Underworld which came after , not being able to touch these numbers despite being " Tomb Raider " in every sense of the word , and better in every possible way.

It's unfair in a way , to blame Crystal and their talent when there are the high priests at Square , who take cues from their own Eidos employees on how to ape Amy Hennig's stuff which sells , in their own IP's.
