Buying Wii-Help needed.

Just make sure they're not selling you a modded Wii......As for guarantee, you wont get any of that in India, since the Wii hasn't officially launched here.

But I saw quite a number of Wiis, that too the sexy black models in Delhi (Planet M - Select Citywalk, Saket ) & in Landmark in Lucknow. And I doubt they will be selling them unofficially as a bill with warranty would be provided. Cost was hight though - 18k AFAIR.

 

How to know whether it was modded?What are the disadvantages of modding wii?

 

P.S:I am using to modding mobile phones.but i wouldnt take the risk with wii!

Well, modding means :

1) You aren't getting a sealed unit.

2) Your Wii's been tampered with, either via softmodding (firmware / IOs tampering) or hardmodding (Wii must have been opened for this).

While modding does give you the advantage of playing retro games via emulators, it's primarily used for playing pirated ISOs of the Wii & Wiiware games. Plus modding is really dangerous as one wrong move with the system IOs & you will end up bricking the Wii.

So I would suggest you to get a legit Wii console & buy the games for it. Trust me most of the games are more fun & varied than PS3/360 ones.

I saw Wii bundles in Landmark (lucknow) last friday and I believe if something is available in lko its available in every part of the world

Well,I too saw wii at landmark, odyssey,planet m in chennai,but all those cost 18000 rupees+taxes.i dont think we have a service station for wii in chennai.As for Box it will be tampered,as they get every thing in that box separately and box it again for selling here for some custom issues.As you suspected the Wiis are moded,but they said its very rare to find pirate games for wii in chennai,they mod it because the wii should support all version(PAL/NTSC) of games.They said they could get me an unmodded wii any time next week.I would report you guys after buying one.Thank you all for advising me on a Good investment.

Well modding CAN be used to region free the Wii which is a good thing IMO. But ask them what kinda mod it is & then study about it on the net. Normally hardmods are resistant to firmware upgrades whereas softmods aren't, so you should know what you are working with.

In short, ask the shopkeeper about the mod, read & learn about it on the net & if it's safe and region frees the Wii, then go for it !

Games will be cheaper if ordered from abroad as compared to those locally available.

Actually i have been studying about mods from the time i decided to buy a wii but i didnt ask about it here respecting the rules.I would prefer an untampered,unmoded Wii.Once again thankyou all guys.

I Bought PS3.

 

I went to shop i mentioned and the owner of the shop was talking to me and he advised me to buy a ps3 because

 

i)He asked me whether we have a HD tv,which we did and he recommended ps3 because it had superior graphics.

 

ii)PS3 have 14 month warranty and parts can be replaced with many service centres located in chennai.(No warranty and service centres for nintendo)

 

iii)Games are much cheaper and easy to obtain.

 

iv)Very Good Resale value(i saw that in ebay).

 

Addtionally some of us friends can share games amongst us and also my friend said about a shop in chennai which rents PS3 games at around 200PM.

 

My father also said to buy ps3 because of service backup.

 

I got the 160gb version at Rs.18,400.And killzone 2 game for 1200.

 

i thought about it and bought ps3.

 

I would still enjoy playing wii at places like Blur.

No parts are changed via Sony India. If your PS3 goes kaput, you will get a new PS3 from Sony for free. Don't ask how much time it's gonna take because no one really knows. And if it's outside the warranty period, be prepared to lighten your pocket by 50% of the going price of the PS3 to get a new one (which incidently is more than the price of a Wii ).

n00b gamers & n00bier shopkeepers make for one deadly combo. Wii is probably the safest of the 3 next gen consoles ! Plus if you give some time to install BootMii & take a NAND backup, it's 110% protection against bricking !

I am used to playing ps3&wii(admit that i have only played wii sports games)even the xbox.Actually the truth is,i underestimated the shop keeper,that man was very knowledgeable person and i am no person who believes others words blindly.I still admire wii but now i should start to love PS3.
