Damn true that.....Mann I decided to get 60 gb legit frm this thread only....!! You cld see me perplexed in one of the PS3 section thread. ( where i was enquiring which console to get. ) btw its really good that u get refund, get another 60 gb frm ur local store where its available...!! congrats..!! renjith Posted February 17, 2008 Report Share Posted February 17, 2008 Hey dude, fully agree with u on this..i hail frm trivandrum and had bought a ps3 60gb from sharjah, 4th day after that it stopped reading discs.took it to sony service centre here, no clue they have as what to do, they even asked me, where is the power switch located? called up bangalore customer care, they said they can't give warranty since purchased from abroad..i was so desperate as what to do with this thing..luckily one of my frnd was leaving to sharjah and gave him my console..they replaced it with a 60gb and refunded the difference amnt since it was less than a week...PHEW!!!...now i am very afraid to put the discs fearing when it will stop reading..because service is out of question...high time sony should do something... E-Mail ID of the Country Manager would be greatly appreciated. I am another victim of Sony Customer Service. Heres a mail, I sent to the customer care e-mail which I guess would be ignored. Hello, I had purchased a Sony Playstation 3 (60GB PAL) on the 23--Oct-2007 at Planet M, Phase 3B2, Mohali. The Blue-Ray drive of the same stopped reading discs and I gave the Unit for servicing at Modern Electronics (Sony Authorized Service Center), Sector 34A, Chandigarh on 02-Feb-2008 (Job Tracking No: CH 55508). After keeping the Unit for about 10 days on the pretext of Repair, I was told that the unit could not be repaired and I will get a replacement. When I contacted the service center again about the replacement, I was told to contact Mr. Charanjit, In-charge of the Sony Head Office, Sector 9, Chandigarh. I contacted him and he told me that the replacement has been authorized and has been dispatched and I will get the same in a couple of days. When I contacted him again, I was told that for some reason, He could not get me a PS3 60GB Model quickly enough and that he would get me a 40GB Model from one of the Sony authorized dealers in Chandigarh and that I would be returned back the difference in price between the two models (Rs 5000/-). I was fine with this scheme as I wanted to get it over quickly. I was asked to come to the Modern Electronics (Sony Service Center) office in Sector 34-A (Note that this place is a few Kilometers from my home) on the 01-Mar-2008. When I went there, the Service center people had no clue what so ever and I was asked to contact Mr. Charanjit. I contacted him and he told me that he was checking the stocks of the dealers to see from where I could be given a replacement and that he would call me back. I waited for about an hour at the Service Center and since I did not get any call from him, I called him up again and was told that he was able to find a 40GB Unit at the Sony World in Sector 35, Chandigarh and that he could not contact the owner of the showroom with whom he has to talk before providing me the unit. I was told to go back home and contact him by 4 PM why which time he would have something definite. I tried to call him back on his mobile, but he did not respond, From that time I had tried several times to contact him without result. I called up the Head Office and indeed confirmed that he had been to the office today (03-Mar-2008), but is not picking up my call. I don't know whether this is deliberate or not, But I am completely fed up with the poor handing of my service request. Furthermore, I was told that no matter how many days it takes to repair/replace the unit, I would not be compensated for the loss in warranty during the period the Unit is at the service center. Its fine if the the service center is resolving the issues in a week or less, But in my case this has already been a month, I lost a months warranty and I did not get my replacement unit either. Now I have just been promised that I will be given the replacement in a couple more days. I was informed by an acquaintance who had faced a similar issue with Sony in Mumbai that he was given his replacement after nearly 2 months when he was about to send a legal notice to the Sony Service Center. So I am assuming that this a routine problem with Sony Service. Please do not consider mail as a request, but consider this as an Ultimatum. 1. I want my PS3 replaced in the next couple of days, If I am to be given a 40GB Model instead of a 60GB Model, then I am even ready to get another Sony product (despite the pathetic after sales service) from the same place so that Sony does not have to return me back the price difference between the two models. 2. I want my warranty compensated for the time the Unit has been at the Service Center. I don't mind if the warranty for the first one week is cut off, But the rest of the 3 weeks needs to be adjusted in my balance warranty. Why should the customer pay for the fault of the Service Center/ Sony. I don't even mind If the replacement takes a few more days provided that Sony is ready to adjust my balance warranty for the time Sony had the unit with them. If Sony does not respond to this immediately, I will be initiating legal proceedings against the Sony Service Center and Sony-India in general. Do not consider this an empty threat. I have already won a consumer case against BSNL in the past and its not a big deal. If required, I will spend several times the amount I spent on the PS3 to see that Sony gets what it deserves. I am also a reputed member of several popular Indian and International Online Tech forums and I will post my case on every one of these. This is in reference to your mail. The content of the same has been duly noted. We highly regret the inconvenience caused due to the delay in the replacement of the set. As per your mail: 1. The new replacement model of 40 GB will be provided to you by Friday. 2. The difference amount of Rs.5000/- will be refunded to you, but the same will take some time. 3. The warranty on the new product will be fresh warranty and will be effective from the date of delivery of the replacement set. You shall be intimated soon regarding the delivery of the set. We sincerely regret this delay. For further clarification feel free to contact the undersigned. Heck, if it wasn't for the SOD, I would have already bought a 60GB PAL PS3 by now... and judging from the number of people who have faced this problem on this forum itself, it's pretty clear that it's not a problem with a "few" consoles.
