HP Laptop battery problem

I really do despise HP a year and a half has passed and 3 components of my laptop have already started giving problems.

Recently its my battery, the system is shutting down without asking me and my windows is showing that I need to replace it.

My question is can I run a laptop directly from ac power? and whats the cost of a new HP battery?

yes u can run directly via ac....... chinese battery with 6mnths warranty costs 2500rs..... n the original hp battery will cost u around 5000rs....... but plz check with local dealer.. u can also check nehru place......

also if u have some tech lknowledge u can replace the cells in the battery with cheap availble one s...if u replace all the 6 cells i think it will cost u 200rs.but finding cells is diffcult in local market..... however it will be availble in lajpat rai market.so if u want to save some money u can try.however u need technical expertise.......

Strange. The only problem I had (have ?) with my HP lappy is that the DVD drive aint working. Otherwise it's going pretty awesome inspite of being 4 years old.

You haven't taken the HP Care Extended Pack ? Take it ASAP. 3 years would come down to something around 5k-6k depending on where you take & your bargaining skills. :P , though the deal doesn't include battery care :P ..

Yes, you can run it via AC cord (that's what I do.. Even my lappy's battery is kaput, but then that's due to my mistake :| ), remember though that constantly plugging in the mains will destroy your battery further i.e. backup will keep on reducing. Mine gives 15 mins on power-saver mode :| ..

If you are going for a branded battery pack, just remember a simple rule. Price of pack = No. of battery cells (3/6/9/etc) * 0.75.. Give or take 500 bucks.

And chinese battery packs will be cheaper but how well they perform I've no idea.

Also how did your battery go bonkers ? Overcharging kya..?

I've always thought it was the other way round - more charge/discharge cycles=bad for battery.

On AC, doesn't the battery get bypassed completely? I mean after it is fully charged?

I think on the modern (read: current) lappies it does, mine is a 4 year old one. DV9700 series. And the constant AC in destroyed the battery ! :(

Anyways, it works good as a download rig now. :P
