Right
the decision about which platforms the game will release on is made long before any sales figures from consoles come in. Ya, prepare for it and announce it at your convenience.....cancel it if the consoles do well, people won't even know if it existed. Also, it seems they don't have any further DLCs planned after the Madness Reefer case, gives them bandwidth to wrap up stuff on PC and also hints about low sales on consoles. I mean it shifted about 900K copies in the launch month as per NPD, which is quite average and nowhere in-line with RDR, GTA4 or with kind of budget the title has been developed on. Reportedly this is probably most expansive video game ever produced, even leaving behind GTA4.
newuxtreme
Wow... So I was waiting and really REALLY looking forrward to an awesome game from R*, and who could possibly be let down by a game with the R* stamp on it? Boy was I sadly mistaken.... Bullet point review- A game that lets you in the shoes of a cop turning detective and rising in the ranks. Different? Yes. But not really such a big deal imo. Only half decent story missions, which could be copied from the millions of thriller novels everywhere. No ingenuity. Absolutely ZILCH re-playability. Which bright a*s developer thought it would be a good idea to NOT be able to skip through cut scenes? Every singld damn f**king thing, you have to sit through in case you die, or your PS3 got reset or you want to replay only the last bit of the mission. No checkpoint save system. A whole case is one chapter, and if you finish it well and good, but if you don't get mind f**ked having to sit through cheezy a*s comments and dialogue all over again. Side missions? What a joke. If you sit in a cop car, you'll hear a radio call, answer it and bear witness to another horrible HORRIBLE mini story game. There is NO competitive/challenging shooting whatsoever in this game. NONE. Games made in the 1990's, that could run on a 'resource-hungry' 64mb ram have a better gunplay component to it. All side missions are just an elongated cutscene. That's it. Run after a criminal. Tap X to grab unto the one's you're allowed to. The ones you're not, you shoot. No shooting guns out of anyone's hands or even rendering them handicapped by popping their knees or legs out. Seriously? So you end up just chasing the criminal till he get's a hostage, and then pump a bullet into his head. ALWAYS the same cutscene of a person being stretchered into an ambulance/van to the morgue. Great crime handling. The one thing they were harping on about in this entire game was about facial expressions. What perhaps people stopped to think about in all their excitement was how facial expressions work relating to psychology. I have read through psychology and the science of human body language, and the movements of the face(actually body language comprises whole body, not only the face geniuses, funnily enough it's almost never the face that gives away the true meaning) besides the time they're telling the truth are pretty much way WAY off. You cannot boast of the simple graphics of this game, it's 2011 as is. Either come out with Crysis/Uncharted type game-industry revolutionizing graphics or leave them be ignored. The only thing worthy in the entire BluRay is the audio/soundtracks which barely take 1/1000th of the size. I didn't like the game, I was sure about that. But the amount of dislike for this game is pretty much pouring out now that I've sat down to write a review on it. My verdict. I wouldn't play this game if I got it for free. Unfortunately I have paid for it and currently other games I want to be playing haven't arrived yet, so I'm stuck with this. No doubt in my mind once I get Dead Space 2/Uncharted 3 beta this is getting sold off for half the cost price, as minty as new, since it was never worthy of being used. 3.5/10 Edit :- Extended it up a bit and made a proper review for it. http://www.indianvideogamer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25476
Tyler
I can understand why the gameplay might disappoint some given the potential the game had but I really don't understand the complaints about the visuals. The graphics are pretty good considering the scale of the game and the attention to detail is quite impressive. It looks 10 times better than GTA IV and has very minimal slowdown (at least on the PS3). Not every game can be Uncharted 2 and Crysis when it comes to visuals. Right
[*]Absolutely ZILCH re-playability. There are saves after every site visit, you can force it by yourself by going out of the area. About cut-scenes, except the one which are at the beginning of the story are skippable. [*]There is NO competitive/challenging shooting whatsoever in this game. NONE. Games made in the 1990's, that could run on a 'resource-hungry' 64mb ram have a better gunplay component to it. Apologies on behalf of Bondi for not turning this into yet another shooter. [*]All side missions are just an elongated cutscene. That's it. Run after a criminal. But there are people you really want to catch alive for interrogation, and can have a few wasted. [*]You cannot boast of the simple graphics of this game, it's 2011 as is. Either come out with Crysis/Uncharted type game-industry revolutionizing graphics or leave them be ignored. Lol, both Uncharted and Crysis (you meant Crysis 2 for sure) are played in a very confined area, cant compare with Noire. Noire looks really good for an open-world game. And come on, you don't need an explicit checkpoint save system here, the auto check point system works well enough. The missions themselves are hardly like 30 mins or so....and if you played it once, more often than not, you can complete them in 15 mins tops. It looks 10 times better than GTA IV and has very minimal slowdown (at least on the PS3). Not every game can be Uncharted 2 and Crysis when it comes to visuals. True, I'm not saying ever game should have it, but for a game that has offered so SO less in story and game play you would think they would have revolutionary graphics to support it. The city is big, true, but also useless. How does it matter how big a city is wen you won't visit 90% of the locations and instead concentrate/go through the 10% highlighted in the story aspect of the game. Also GTA4 was huge, and so was RDR. And neither of those visuals are shabby compared to this. Perhaps a tad bit, maybe, but significantly, not at all. However something or the other was going on in every part of the map in GTA4 & RDR. Hunting in the woods, chase scenes, shooting, fleeing what not. Every corner you turned in the game you would know that just past this place you completed another part of the story. Such huge maps, such amazing graphics but every bit of it used. [*]Absolutely ZILCH re-playability. I replayed a few missions to get 5*, this has almost the same replayability you would find any other SP only game. Seriously bro? Playing a thriller, with the same story again to get a 5*? That's like answering questions to an exam with a guide book in hand. And can I know the re-playability in this? Perhaps you and me have different meanings of the word re-playability. FIFA is replayable, despite being the same thing the millionth match you play. GTA/RDR is replayable upto 2-3 times, because the story and gameplay is fun. Which part of this gameplay made it fun to you to play it more than once? [*]Which bright a*s developer thought it would be a good idea to NOT be able to skip through cut scenes? Every singld damn f**king thing, you have to sit through in case you die, or your PS3 got reset or you want to replay only the last bit of the mission. No checkpoint save system. As compared to GTA4, or even San Andreas where you had the ability to make choices in what you wanted to do. [*]You cannot boast of the simple graphics of this game, it's 2011 as is. Cash
Dude LA Noire has got better graphics by a huge margin compared to GTA. I agree the shooting part of the game is kind of or pretty much less but then the game is supposed to be that way.
Tyler
The problem is once again someone is expecting an expansive GTA IV / RDR style open world adventure. LA Noire is like Mafia, yes there's an open world and you can drive around and do random stuff if you wish but the narrative is tightly linear (perhaps for the best). Just because its on a blu-ray it doesn't mean it has to have tons of content and utilize every little megabyte on the disc. So many linear games which are way shorter than LA Noire are on blu-ray just because it's the PS3's standard format. I loved the heck out of RDR (GTA IV not so much) but I didn't go into LA Noire expecting a sandbox game and FWIW it is a fairly enjoyable game. In fact I would have been pissed if they made the shooting/action parts harder. However, I do agree that the basic investigation gameplay could have been better and the cases more involved. Also the "noir" feel was sorely missing. Still, the game is a refreshing change of pace from the regular shooty shooty bang bang action games out there and boasts impressive production values. The Assassin
First of all,u are making a huge mistake by comparing it with GTA 4 & RDR. 1.U played this game expecting to be a game with loads of action.U should have researched a bit before buying this game. 2.L.A. Noire isnt a R* game technically.R* just published the game & Team Bondi are the actual developers. 3.Graphics in this game are very good.Better than GTA 4 & as good as RDR.Seriously, how can u expect an open-world game to have Uncharted-like graphics? Ur review looks more like a rant than a review.
praveer
GTA4 and RDR are superior looking games, however LA Noire has the upper hand when it comes to texture variety, and physical interaction with the objects in the game world....but that's pretty much the only thing I would say that is better than RDR/GTA4, as these two games can have LA noire for breakfast when it comes to draw distance, size, density, NPC behavior, lighting, character models (LA noire has 10 times better facial animation but the base face itself is 10 times worse looking, for example the eye in LA noire isn't really an eyeball but rather an animated normal map, looks very convincing most of the time but when you observe it for a while you can see that its a flat texture on face which moves, the face itself look like its made of dough rather than skin...this is because there is no advanced skin shading going on) it even has day/night cycles. dylanjosh
Why Did L.A. Noire Take Seven Years to Make?
