L.A. Noire

Just finished the game. I liked it. Good game, not great.

One thing I hated was how scripted the action sequences were. I knew that there wouldn't a lot of action, but almost all of whatever action there was scripted. You'll know if you've had to redo chase sequences. The runner will always take the exact same route, the exact same vehicles will block your way. The exact same vehicles will block in the exact same positions etc. Heck, most of the stuff was done for you. You only needed to move or run in certain direction and everything else was taken care of.

I don't know if you guys noticed this, but the game 'guides' when you're walking or runnin. When there's a corner coming up, Phelps will automatically turn even though I'm still holding 'forward'. Sort of like a magnetism effect.

The cases were interesting. Though at some points in the game you're not sure where the story is going ... I was left wondering at some points whether there even was a central story to this game.

I liked how they tell part of the story through the news papers.

Cole Phelps .. I dunno. I guess it was the actor - or maybe Team Bondi didn't bother. Cole barely shows any emotion other than anger or being serious. Through most of the game he doesn't need to show any other emotion and I was okay with it. Right uptil the part where he supposedly falls for the German girl.

That was completely sudden. There was no flirting, no hints, nothing. He just walks into that room and sleeps with her? I initially thought he wanted to interrogate her. That was only time he was required to display any other emotion and it falls flat. I lost the connection with him right there.

My favourite character was Jack Kelso. I liked how we could play as him. I was kind of surprised that he has the exact same notebook at Cole. They should've given him a different notebook. It's a very small thing, but contributes in giving him a unique identity. If this was a complete Rockstar game they would've done that. It's those kind of small touches that R* knows to take care of.

I don't know why Jack and Cole were smitten by the German lady. I found her.. not so attractive.

The game had a lot of potential. The city is wasted. Street crimes are over too fast and collecting vehicles is boring.

Other than this I agree with some of the points newuextreme made in the prev page. You can't skip cutscenes. Only on rare occasions, like before a chase seq. But the graphics are pretty good.

8/10 ... an extra point for trying something different in an industry with so many clones.

it wasn't sudden. there are quite a few scenes before that where he is shown to be going to the club where she sings. it's not explicitly mentioned but i got the hint that he was having an affair with her.

I thought he just liked Jazz music. So it was pretty sudden to me.

i can't recall exactly what the scenes were but i'm sure the affair was implied with the way the scenes were shot. exchanging significant glances, or maybe he got up and left the moment she left the stage. these kinds of things were meant to subtly hint at the affair.

should've been the scene it should've been implied the most. But as you can see it's like any other interrogation, with no hints from either side. Right after that he follows her without being seen and then sleeps with her.

@Zen - What I meant was a whole different style. I didn't literally mean he was carrying the same notebook. Of course he wasn't. doh.gif

Yes. I do. I have enough space. But it isn't getting installed. I have a 320 GB PS3 dude. Hardly any space used.

Avatar is like 700kb or so

oh ok, and no idea on what's causing the problem, a few google searches reveal that going into safe mode and file system restore is an option, though search for other alternatives first

An article explaining what LA Noire got right and where it failed... good read.

WARNING: Super long.

Nice find. I'll be reading that.

This has to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year for me and I think Portal 2 was the culprit. It was so good that it restored my faith in videogames. I mayhave-sortof expected the same from L.A. Noire as well :|
