as the title says...my ps3 which is now 2yrs old...has started to shutdown on its own after every few minutes...sometimes it 10,20,sometimes it works fine for almost 1 or 2hrs and then all of a sudden it beep and switches off...by switching off i mean it gives some beep sounds and then the yellow light keep blinking until i manually go and press it off...any idea...any solution...

i have unplugged everything and tried it

i have erased everything and restored ,formatted etc...

so what else...it time has come kya?

Try to deactivate the account asap or you will lose one activation. Yeah its Ylod, overheating and all.

why deactivate account???? didnt get it...lose activation??

overheating i found by googling also...but dont get it ..the place where i keep my ps3 is very well ventilated...

so no solution for it??? i dont want to go for a replacement since perhaps i got to pay half money for a new ps3 (if i am right) since it more then 1 yr old...i hardly get time for gaming and as things stand this coming year will be pretty hectic so investing in it does not make sense for me

Yeah for your main account go to account management, deactivate PS3 system. So you can still have 5 slots when purchasing games. Most people can't do this when their PS3 gets Ylod.

And I think you can replace it for half price. KZ3 :chair:

no i mean if it does get ylod then in future if i get a new ps3 then wont i be able to use my main account..since i just have to enter email attached to it,like incase if i use someone else ps3 ..i can use my account on his...

no chance of me being in kz3 bro :( ... maybe next year if things are better i can get back to gaming...that is why i was asking if any other method of fixing this...repairs etc...so i can use it atleast...or else it will be packed and buried

Sorry to hear that :( , yeah its on the verge of getting YLOD anyday.

A normal working PS3 would never show yellow light , only red/green/blue.

If the problem persists , its better to open & clean it properly asap , Kolkata is a very humid place so there is bound be lots of sticky dust/goo kinda substance inside on fan etc..

IMO :

obaid bhai....try to take it to a technician (Grey market)...i dunno abt kolkatta..but here in Chennai ...there are magical hands....

better get a new slim one when u want to get back to gaming...i have learned once something is broken trying to fix it makes it work just a little longer...just like a cancer patient...time to say bye to it...i did the same for my 360 after 2 repairs

or give it away to some younger cousin brother till it lives (at least u will make him smile) ...i did that for my ps2...

@joy ..well yea kol is really humid plus since i live in central...its all the more dusty etc...will try cleaning and see if any difference...

@roshan...well ps3 hardly has a market here in my city..so chances of getting it repaired i am not sure..finding a decent shop to buy games is also not there..so you can imagine how things are here

@motabhai...yea bro will try cleaning and see...yaar saal main ek baar nahana...kyu tu kya wohi karta hai :naughty:

@pushy...would love to be in kz3 :( ...but as things are now, chances are bleak..the last year was not so good for me ...some major things happened and still getting things back on track...so spending even on a replacement wont be possible frankly at this point...

yaar people in family look down on this passion...and with other expenses lined up...its like a luxury which i cant do right now...maybe next year if things go good then will be able to be back in gaming

lastly ...thanks everyone

google karke open ur PS3 and clean out the (ton of) gunk u'll find.

do it before ur PS3 really overheats n goes YLOD

In retrospect, I did open my Fat PS3 after using it for 2 years & was surprised to find very less dirt inside it. I mean it's kept in area exposed to normal dusting, sweeping etc. so expected tons of dirt inside but it was hardly there. Totally minuscule quantities. So I guess PS3 doesn't really get that dirty as it's made out to be. Definitely think it's more of a YLOD.

@aman..yes bro...thats the situation as of now...cant really help it..it sad :( but what to do

@kunal...i already have a ups attached to it bhai...

the questions i have are

1.if i open and try cleaning the ps3,will my chances of replacement get hampered in future?

2.what is this replacement thing? for example, suppose i pack my ps3 right away without trying anything more with it...and say next year i ring up sony care and tell them this issue that this has started happening from last week...will i be able to go for a replacement that time?

3.what is the method of replacement? i do have the original box with me,rest of the wires ,ds3 all are there...so will that work in my favour? and i have to pay half price of a brand new ps3,is this right?

4.the replacement console they will give, will that be a brand new packed sealed one? the present bundle or ps3 that is available in market that time or a old repaired one like in case of xbox?

I'm pretty sure replacement works only when the console is in warranty. If you have the shiny models in warranty and replacement is a necessity, then I read somewhere that they replace it with the new model. If its out of warranty you'll have to pay sony to fix it. It's $150 in the US, roughly around 7.5k here (I'm sure it's a lot lesser here but I dont know how much) but they offer warranty on their services which you can extend the warranty by purchasing their warranty extension plans so your ps3 is future proof.

My 2 cents...

^^^ well if i am not wrong some people got their ps3 which was out of warranty replaced by paying half price....not sure though..that why asked all those questions

the warranty extension plan is offered by croma stores as far i know...in kolkata (where i live) there was not any croma when i bought it...nor it there till now

repairing of ps3,i dont think they have repairing option here in india...not sure though

^^ yes, out of warranty ps3 replacement by paying 50% is a special offer only for India (and that is because there are no official repair options in India)
