nokia are not letting go of symbian just yet. looks like they have great confidence in WP7 :P

"Under the new strategy, MeeGo becomes an open-source, mobile operating system project. MeeGo will place increased emphasis on longer-term market exploration of next-generation devices, platforms and user experiences. Nokia still plans to ship a MeeGo-related product later this year."

Jo Harlow, new exec in charge of Smart Devices, will grab the MeeGo reins in addition to responsibility for Symbian Smartphones and and Strategic Business Operations.

Likewise, Symbian isn't going away either:

"With Nokia's planned move to Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform, Symbian becomes a franchise platform, leveraging previous investments to harvest additional value. This strategy recognizes the opportunity to retain and transition the installed base of 200 million Symbian owners. Nokia expects to sell approximately 150 million more Symbian devices in the years to come"

Nokia and Microsoft form mobile partnership

Nokia and Microsoft have announced plans to form a partnership in the mobile space that the companies hope will help it compete more effectively against the iOS and Android platforms.

Just days after Nokia CEO Stephen Elop - a former Microsoft exec - blasted the company's performance in a leaked internal memo, the two businesses have joined forces in a partnership that is likely to see Windows Phone, Bing and adCenter integrated into Nokia handsets in the future.

The plans incorporate the following proposals:

  • Nokia would adopt Windows Phone as its principal smartphone strategy, innovating on top of the platform in areas such as imaging, where Nokia is a market leader.
  • Nokia would help drive the future of Windows Phone. Nokia would contribute its expertise on hardware design, language support, and help bring Windows Phone to a larger range of price points, market segments and geographies.
  • Nokia and Microsoft would closely collaborate on joint marketing initiatives and a shared development roadmap to align on the future evolution of mobile products.
  • Bing would power Nokia's search services across Nokia devices and services, giving customers access to Bing's next generation search capabilities. Microsoft adCenter would provide search advertising services on Nokia's line of devices and services.
  • Nokia Maps would be a core part of Microsoft's mapping services. For example, Maps would be integrated with Microsoft's Bing search engine and adCenter advertising platform to form a unique local search and advertising experience
  • Nokia's extensive operator billing agreements would make it easier for consumers to purchase Nokia Windows Phone services in countries where credit-card use is low.
  • Microsoft development tools would be used to create applications to run on Nokia Windows Phones, allowing developers to easily leverage the ecosystem's global reach.
  • Nokia's content and application store would be integrated with Microsoft Marketplace for a more compelling consumer experience.

umm....I have Nokia 5800XM...there are two things which come to my mind every time i look at it:

1. Why the fcuk! i am still using a phone with OS dead like a dodo!!

2. Because there are no major apps in android which are not there for my phone...at least for right now, i agree that android is the thing for future, but i think i can still live with my phone for few more months.... :scratchchin:

But if someone will buy it for 7K. i will mark my attendance on Android thread

For anybody who is still using the Nokia 5800 try this custom firmware. It's awesome...

http://www.symbiantweet.com/symbian-anna-custom-firmware-v6-2-for-nokia-5800-5530-5230-x6

Nice find, maybe the guy who's posted above can give it a shot and see how it works.

I'd try it on my gf's 5800, but any errors and I'll have my throat slit :fear: So can't risk it lol.

EDIT: Wait I see an X6 in there.. my dad has an X6... but then that's an even riskier prospect :samui:

^takes less than 10 mins if you have JAF installed...

It isn't the time taken, it's what happens when they find out their stuff has been messed with :fear:

Plus backing up all SMSes and contacts and restoring them.... brrrr... what if something doesn't work out somewhere inbetween lol

Have you given it a try? How easy is it to go back to official firmware if something goes wrong (or if you want to go back to it)?

Any real issues with the CFW?

It's fairly easy to go back to OFW. You can't downgrade though...so if u install 52.x.x.x, u can't go back to 50.x.x.x

CFW are almost always better than OFW in every which way. But if you're going to be installing this for somebody else then i wouldn't suggest it.
