Solitaire
I am planning to do my MS computer graphics but the problem I am a communications student and the whole procezs of shifting branches will be a pain. Well my major is Instrumentation and in many of the places I'd asked for a communications related subject for MS. It's still possible if you have very good academics and published papers and major projects backing your desire to shift fields. newuxtreme
May seem odd asking here but is anyone here interested in starting a Cry Engine 2 or Unreal Engine 3 project? (basically a mod) I have this lengthy vision of what we should approach, who knows if it turns up into something big. Dude I'm thinking of getting into Game Dev in a long run to get to become a Game Designer. Any projects related to games, level designing, mods, mapping etc is good enough for me to show as a project. What do you have in mind and what all knowledge do we need to start? You can consider Unity 3D as well (supports C# and Java Script as opposed to the weird UDK scripting language). Unless the game has to have good graphics. praveer
Imo CE2 and UDK are easy to use and are very popular among the community, beside if we want a strong art then these engines will help.

sup bro?
Debugging in UDK is completely sh*t. Anyway, that's not the point. Do you have a concept. pitch or an idea for the game?? We probably need a new thread for the project if anyone is serious. Get a team together, assign roles etc etc.

Solitaire
I thought i was unique....... all my friends went to MS after their BE in instrumentation, but i stayed back Well we do have quite a number of common subjects though. The Electronics part is pretty much the same and E&I has a lot of stuff thrown in from both ECE and EEE streams, not to mention the occasional mech and chemical subjects that show up. And I did some projects at IIT and another place to firm up the communication part of it. Still I'll go to the states and shift within electronics if I don't really like the sub-area that I've currently asked for. People asking me to do a PhD but I want to work quicker and earn well before possibly an MBA 4-5 years down the line if I feel the need for it. Only thing that interests me about a PhD is the nice "Dr." tag that you can put before your name Edited May 3, 2011 by Gaurav - Solitaire
Solitaire
Anyone in the electronics industry here?? Have a query that needs somewhat of a pointed answer (relating to job scenarios in India). Someone asked me this but I really have no idea about it: A EE major with a MS degree and has say 6-7 years experience.. what would typical salary be in india for such a person assuming this person is hardware oriented. What would the annual salary be (excluding bonuses and such). What do the big companies like Texas Instruments and Nvidia pay for instance? Could somebody in the know please answer ASAP? Need to give them a source (as in someone in so-in-so company or so-in-so field), though i don't need names.

Man In The Box
Okay ... so here is my dilemna. I am currently studying a BCom at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. I have a chance to go on exchange in January 2012 and I would like to take that chance. Firstly because I am paying international fees for my education and would rather study in 2 different countries and get more of an experience. Second, it's just going to help me in the future. Now the dilemna I have is that I have to choose 3 colleges for exchange ( in order of preference ) and I have shortlisted my search to : University College, Dublin ; King's College, London and National University of Singapore. I want to know if there is anyone here who has ideas about colleges abroad and who can help me understand which is the best college among these 3. Here is a list of other colleges that I can go to, incase someone wants to know. Replies would really be appreciated as I have to make my decision by this week. m-JeRi
I think singapore is very well know for their finance infrastructure. One of the best in Asia i think. And the NUS is a very good college. London is one of the world's biggest finance HQ. King's college is a very well known one. Seen it getting good review in PGuy. Man In The Box
Hmm. The good thing about being in Asia would be that I will be really close to home and stuff. But I am not sure whether I should go there or maybe go to some place like London or Dublin where I may never get a chance to live in the future. And perhaps experiencing college life there would be much better. Damn, i'm like so confused right now.

Since you're not keen on not settling in the UK then go with UCL; well know for its beautiful campus.
