Well, since many students are posting here... lemme also ask for some suggestions :P. I'm going to the University of Auckland next month for my BCom ( specialising in International Business and Management ). So what all fields should I keep an eye out on after the 3 years? Also, what are the advantages of studying International Business in expansion of businesses?

If entrepreneurship is not your cup of tea, then marketing seems to be a logical next step.

CA here as well. Wow, I didnt know there were that many CAs here :D I do practice, but Im taking a break to get some time off for myself. Its been such a rabbit run from the start that I only just realised I never really had a laid back time. Ill be back in the market in 5-6 months time.

Yes, any CA related queries, practice or non-practice; Im open for questions. I used to work for a long time with the biggest company before, so big 4 questions are also welcome.

Great Initiative MT. :coolspeak: Since I am a Senior HR Professional, I 'll be happy to help whenever I can. :hypocrite:

As for Gaming design course, I have known and hired Game Designer for a Game Development Project (Soldier Of Fortune) from the Art Institute of Vancouver. A degree /course from there is highly recommended. Closer home just to get an experience into it, once can go and take counselling from MAAC , FrameBoxx, FXStudio and try their short term certificate course as you wait to make your showreel for bigger and better universities.

You may also see this link for more information: http://www.gamepro.com/article/features/214164/8-highest-ranked-colleges-for-game-design/

Thanks for the Vancouver recommendation Megz

appreciate

Even Full sail college is good for game designing. but it takes only limited student into there course.

Even in india we have DSK in pune which have design course dont know how good they are.

But for game design you need to know about Games engines also such as Unreal engine and much more ..even you need to be good in writing as You have make so many game design document to explain to Developer and producer of gaming company

Even in india we have game producer which is pretty good scope turn around Job. for which you have to MBA from reputed college and have a good exp on gaming.

MOst of the gaming company have opening for game producer as fresher and for exp you must have exp on working with 2 inhouse game production.

@megzworld ------Are you still working with any gaming company presently

@cool

yea I heard about DSK,

it's a backup option for me

as for gaming engine thing I already know it

me & my few friends are creating a indie game through Unity

I am good with creativity & story/char stuff

writing(as long as it's on a laptop) comes quite easy to me

also for others looking into Game Design

you gguys might wanna check out the sloperama thread on GDD

Now comes the problem:

Most of my associates say that a gamer design degree aint worth it as dev only value your portfolio

That's my biggest confusion

Alright heres a question,

Previously I had considered applying for foriegn universities but I rejected that idea for graduation due to the fact that I wanted to do it in India,and a sudden change of scenery wasnt palpable.

Now I am in 11nth about to go to 12th this year,science stream and I dont think I have a huge chance of making it into IIT,since I haven't even started studying for competitives.

My question is is it possible to have a mediocre (leaning towards weak) graduation and then a strong post grad in foreign/domestic in say MBA?

Dude, Strong acads always helps esp in a top rated domestic MBA.

That said, You still have a lot of time to prep and get into a good grad college (and engg is surely not the only option to be considered for a strong acad).

Most MBA's ,esp foreign one, give a very very strong weightage to your extra curriculars. (and no MP gaming doesnt count ;) ) ... and good work ex is also essential.

You have a lot of time to build on you extra currics, and work exp. Planning from now and working on it is essential.

best of luck.

All of last year I was searching for jobs and you didn't turn up :rant:

I need to hit you up on something related to Freelance work and the laws revolving around tax if you have any idea about how that works. Got a CA and he's good but he also happens to be terrible at communication and meeting deadlines. Let me know if you can offer some insight.

Nope - no idea. Did my MBA and moved more into IT. Am more into the world of financial software. Anybody have any queries about product management can ask me - this is my area of specialty - a different animal altogether from project management. I know, since I just moved into the latter after spending 6 years in the former.

Bul how's the IT sector doing ?

IT's on a roll. Hiring's through the roof - everyone has huge backlogs of clients. The niche players are making a killing, picking people up by the droves.

My question is is it possible to have a mediocre (leaning towards weak) graduation and then a strong post grad in foreign/domestic in say MBA?

Yes, totally possible. And after a few years in a job, very few people actually give a damn about the degrees also. Your work experience matters more.

Managing studies with CA Articleship For CA Students

Chartered Accountant (CA) is one such initial which is so prestigious to place before your name. But to be able to do so, you need not only to go through the years of articleship but also the rigorous exams. While the articleship period passes through time, one finds it hard to clear the exams. The reason remains that we have no time to study simultaneously with our articleship. And when we sit to study in our limited exam leaves, it is too late to study for the knowledge and understanding sake. Further, we are short on time to even cover the whole syllabus. Well, I am here to talk about managing studies with your articleship.

No need to over-emphasize that one needs to study from day one, concurrently with one’s articleship. How to do it as we have so laborious days, full time office! Wait my friend, just make a total of how much idle/waste time you spend during the day:

1. Sleeping late till morning;

2. Commuting hours to and from office;

3. Idle time at client’s place;

4. Going out with colleagues after the office;

5. Passing time with games/movies/TV once home; :censored:

6. Being busy over phone.

Attach importance to every aspect of life, but differently. It’s important to prioritize things at various stages of life. For example- studies shall be a priority in student life, while “masti” shall be a priority once you are settled.

There are few tips based on my experience which you may consider following:

1. Early Morning Study- Few people prefer studying late night. But that time there are many things from the day running in our mind. Lots of reasons to get distracted. Tired mind can’t concentrate much after day’s hard work at office.

The benefit of early morning study is that when you wake up your mind is at peace. Your mind is not entangled with many things. Try getting atleast an hour to study early morning.

2. Utilising idle time- It is the time when we have nothing fruitful to do. It may be spending hours in commuting or idle time at Client place. Make sure you analyse the duration and the mode of transport for commuting. According to the time and comfort you may prefer reading full-fledged chapters or miscellaneous things like AS, SA, Case Studies and all. You may try carrying one book at client place (covered with newspaper obviously) and do read them smartly as to not let the client know that you’re studying while ensuring that your senior has no work to delegate you. Even 15-20 minutes here and there every day contributes a lot.

3. Doing non-important things at office idle time- Try to shift your non-productive things towards office idle time. Suppose you have to follow up with your mobile Customer Care Executive or call up your known to wish him birthday, don’t waste your precious study time at home to do this. Such things can very well be done at office. It ensures that you don’t have such unimportant things to do at home at the cost of your studies.

4. Limited hanging out with colleagues every day after office- We all go to audit our clients at happening places across the city/state. There is always an inclination to try different restaurants, visit places or to hang out just for nothing. You’ll always find in your team few members who would also try to persuade you. And these people would mostly be those who are done with their studies. Now, they are working in a company and enjoying life. But remember, your priorities at this point of time are studies. A monumental place can be visited any time later in life, restaurants and all you can get better with time. These are anyways too much to be explored. These things can wait but not your studies.

5. Manage your weekends strategically- Well, everyone wants to be managing things and people. One management lesson says that to be a good manager, just start perceiving everything in your life as individual project and execute it strategically. Your studies, your PRs (Personal Relations), quality time with your family, friends and relatives are individual projects wherein you need to think if you are over-doing or under-doing on any aspect at the cost of other.

We plan to spend the weekend well in advance, mostly to go out and enjoy. The Saturdays (if off) and Sundays are pass by and we don’t even realize. If we see we have more than 150 days of weekends in average 1.5 yrs. This is even more than the exam leaves we get. If we utilize it judiciously, we must have got more than one reading of all the subjects which is sufficient to not only pass but to get a rank as well.

I would suggest you to follow this strategy just for a week religiously and feel the difference yourself.

This not exhaustive tips, feel free to manage your studies and work in your own way.

So MBA in ITBM is a good idea as per you right ? and what are the speculations about the IT industry for the years to come ? the interim spike is here to stay ?

and you yourself have no IT background (Grad or PG) , correct me if i am wrong so does it involve a great deal of slogging for a commerce/management background candidate to make his way into IT ?

Can please put light on Financial Software area. What sort of work or job does it entail ?

Making software for the financial services industry - banking software / risk management software are two examples which are in big demand. Get requirements, design the software, validate functionality with the end user, and role it out, pray it works (anyone in IT can confirm the last step is mandatory).

So MBA in ITBM is a good idea as per you right ? and what are the speculations about the IT industry for the years to come ? the interim spike is here to stay ?

IMO doesn't really matter how the IT industry or any other industry will be if you're not enjoying what you're doing. If you find something which you enjoy (be realistic about expectations) that will give you the best returns. I like IT, it's exciting. I like finance as a subject and get enough opportunity to apply it in software design.

As for getting to be good at your work, here's something I heard from my client which stuck with me - "Two characteristics are important for a person to be successful and grow in his job - the ability to learn, and the ability to adapt." If you have both there's nothing which can stop your growth. Even as a potential recruiter, you should know what kind of person you're looking for and whether he has these qualities.

Even if you cannoty crack IIT, you may try other Engineering enterance test. I suggest you do Engineering from a recognised institute (State/Private) and then work for 1 year. In that year also study for MBA enterance - CAT, XLRI or International. You may want to do your MBA in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Product Management or General Management.

But first find out do you really want to Do an Engineering or an MBA at all?

Most youngsters do it because it is like the normal thing to do.. basic expectation from a PCM student.

May be you like Photography more, or Scriptwriting more or Would like to be a Production Controller or Cinematographer or a Chef..

Think what's your talent.. Think what you would like to do so that going to work for the next 30 years of life would not feel like living someone else's life for money..

CA articleship - ahhh - good old days - billed ridiculous hours, fudged expense reports, clocked my best times on Chip's Challenge at a client, flirted with the hot company secretary, lived out of a suitcase, went to college at 530 am, made money coaching for CAT, and clocked my maximum hours in Diablo II.

i've always been interested in IT but the coding part always daunted me it was the front end of the IT industry i was more inclined towards i hope i make it with minimal back end knowledge which the college curriculum assures to take care of. Because if one is marketing a product one obviously will be expected to know the intricacies of the product first, so makes sense. (i am interested in marketing)

OMG Jack Welch fan here as well :D

Hmm nice. I still have a long way to think as I have the full 3 years left for my course anyway before I have to make a plan of some sort. Am definitely interested in entrepreneurship but would first like to get some experience before going down that road.
