Zackster
I got 99.92 in CAT and got rejected by IIM A and B today inspite of having 96.6 in Xth and 91.6 in XIIth. I have 70.3% in graduation from Delhi University, Economics Hons. Currently in my final year. God knows what these people want. My only hopes rest on Calcutta now. If not, I should start preparing a noose. You are very unfortunate... But I don believe they rejected you though you are not an engineering student!! ceosam
You are very unfortunate... But I don believe they rejected you though you are not an engineering student!! :surprise:/> I know man. It just sucks so much. I don't know what I did wrong in my life. you are supposed to have an impeccable academic record with no blips and I do believe I have that. Even if I give it again, next year, nothing much will change. My percentile can't get better and at most there will be a very marginal improvement in my grad score. Sigh. Life just sucks and then you die. and there's no way around it.

Also read about Soumyajit Sanyal last years topper got rejected at IIMs with scores like 99.7 + f to 99.9+ for four years. Only after he got 100% did Joka take him in. Lifes hard for a General Male in India. Already made amends with the fact that I have a rare shot at IIMs after the criteria was tweaked. suddenly my 79.9 and 79.3 in boards was not good enough anymore. Well screw that my master plan is now to study a lot get my MBA done from a Sarkari school and do a PHD from the US and work hard. Then when they will ask me to guest lecture I ll reject em Edited January 11, 2013 by Vip3r

I want to enter Investment Banking and undoubtedly, C would be the best place for it. That's where my hopes lie now. Lets see when they release the shortlist now. Sackboy
Should I put my eggs in the US basket or wait for the Indian admissions? My parents can afford US buy I would prefer them not to undergo the ordeal :/
Vip3r
Should I put my eggs in the US basket or wait for the Indian admissions? My parents can afford US buy I would prefer them not to undergo the ordeal :/ I am not sure if I should be saying this but it depends on what you want from the degree. In US actual scope for work is far far greater than India. whats more you could get a job with XBOX ala Gaurav or follow you passion in general. If you would want to do an MBA here then read the last few posts here. things are really I mean really tough for General Engineering Male as far as the IIMs go with grace marks to the ladies and non engineering graduates. At your stage don't think about the IT and the easy money think long term. For Masters in Engg US seems to be a great option as demonstrated by Gaurav. So why not start early? About your hesitation with the expenses think of what you will do as a parent and you will get your answer. Its your time make the most of it. Sackboy
My brother also studied in USA, and I have seen how it hurts the family economically, if he didn't go, with that money we could have bought a f**king S Class, and now we can't even afford the most el cheapo apartment in Gurgaon. I am sure my parents can scrape together the funds to send both me and my brother to USA ( for a year before my brother graduates) but they will be living in poverty till then, I don't want to do that. That's why I am hoping for NUS or Bits or IIT, but one thing is for sure, I won't go to anything less than an A+ university, both my parents are from IIT, my whole family expects me to do well.. That is the way to go about it. However one thing is that education is not something that is tangible like an S-Class or an apartment. However one thing is that education is not something that is tangible like an S-Class or an apartment. I am not saying we would have bought an S class, my parents would have invested it in an apartment or some land probably but the thing is that the guilt will be overwhelming if I make them pay that much. tricky747
Reading these comments about selection procedures in IIM type institutes really pose a scary scenario about the way our education system is going.I wonder what is held in the future, maybe in next decade, general middle class male population will have to try their luck in a toss-up by the administrators ,given that the seats wouldve already filled by senseless quotas? GameAnalyzer
All colleges that I have mentioned earlier won't accept me because of my very low percentage. I have 45% Marks (PCM) Overall (62%). All these colleges wants 70% or higher in PCM. In English I have 77/100 and in Computer 70/100. (Extra subject Painting in which I have 87/100 but no use) Any college will accept me or not? I don't have friends or family to talk to about this. It's like I was destined to be a failure. Can't even sleep. All these days I just pray to god. Have I really ruined my life? Would it be possible for me to re-do things later on down the road? I can't believe that at 19 years old, by missing a few deadlines, over time I have destroyed my life. There's nothing to be happy about anymore. Nothing to look forward to except failure, by my own doing. Suicidally depressed...Please help? dharmin
@GameAnalyzer if u really want to do Engineering i think getting a seat via management quota is your best bet, if not bca/bsc would not be a bad option too..
